RELATED FAQS ABOUT 1 Day Tanzania Bird Watching Safari to Ngorongoro

How many species can I expect to see during a 1-day Tanzania bird watching safari to Ngorongoro?

The crater and its surrounding highland forests are home to over 500 recorded bird species. During your birding excursion, you can expect to spot a diverse range of birds including the Kori Bustard, Secretary birds, and various raptors. The high concentration of different habitats within a small area makes this one of the most productive day trips for avian enthusiasts.

Can I see flamingos during my birding tour on the crater floor?

Yes, Lake Magadi is a shallow soda lake on the crater floor that attracts thousands of Lesser Flamingos. They often create a stunning pink carpet across the water. Depending on the water levels, you might also see Greater Flamingos and various other waterbirds like avocets and stilts.

What makes the guides from Burigi Chato Safaris CO LTD experts in birding?

Our guides undergo specialized training to identify birds by their calls, flight patterns, and plumage. They have years of experience navigating the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and know the specific nesting sites of rare species. Their expertise ensures that you maximize your sightings even within a single day.

Is it possible to customize the itinerary to focus on specific bird habitats?

We can certainly tailor your day to spend more time in areas like the Lerai Forest or the Gorigor Swamp. If you have a particular interest in forest birds or waterfowl, just let your guide know at the start of the trip. We want to ensure you see the specific species on your life list.

What kind of vehicle is used for this specialized birding trip?

You will travel in a 4x4 safari Land Cruiser with a pop-up roof designed for 360-degree viewing. This allows you to stand up and use your camera or binoculars without obstruction. The vehicles are well-maintained to ensure a smooth ride through the rugged terrain of the crater.

Are meals included in the 1-day bird watching package?

The package includes a delicious picnic lunch box and plenty of bottled drinking water. We typically stop at a designated picnic site that offers great birding opportunities even while you eat. You might see Rufus-tailed Weavers or Superb Starlings hanging around the trees nearby

Can we combine bird watching with seeing the Big Five animals?

While the focus is on birds, we will naturally encounter many large mammals during the drive. The Ngorongoro Crater is famous for its lions, elephants, and black rhinos. Your guide will point out these animals as we move between different birding hotspots.

Is it possible to add a short walking safari to look for birds?

We can alter the itinerary to include a guided walk along the crater rim where the vegetation is different from the floor. This allows you to see highland species that prefer the thick canopy of the montane forest. Please note that walks must be accompanied by an armed ranger for safety.

Are binoculars and birding field guides provided in the safari vehicle?

We recommend that serious birders bring their own high-quality binoculars for the best viewing experience. Our vehicles are equipped with one pair of binoculars and a comprehensive bird guide book for reference. Your professional guide will also help identify species that are difficult to spot with the naked eye.

What is the best time of year to book this one-day avian adventure

Birding is excellent year-round, but the months from November to April are particularly special. This is when migratory species from Europe and Northern Africa arrive in the crater. You will also see many local birds in their bright breeding plumage during this period.
