Day 1: Nairobi to Lake Nakuru – Scenic Kenya Road Safari

Our 2-day Kenya road safari begins with a morning pick-up from your Nairobi hotel, residence or the airport. You will travel overland in a comfortable safari vehicle, descending into the Great Rift Valley as our guide explains the region’s landscapes, towns and natural history. A photography and refreshment stop can be made at a Rift Valley viewpoint before our safari continues to Lake Nakuru. After checking in at your midrange accommodation and enjoying lunch, you will enter the national park for an afternoon game drive. Our guide will explore lakeshore, woodland and grassland habitats while searching for rhinos, Rothschild’s giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, antelopes, baboons and numerous bird species.

No. This is a completely overland safari using a comfortable vehicle between Nairobi and Lake Nakuru.

2. How long is the road journey from Nairobi?

The drive normally takes several hours, but the exact duration depends on traffic, road conditions, stops and your Nairobi pick-up location.

3. What can we see during the road journey?

You will travel through the Great Rift Valley and pass towns, farmland, escarpments and changing landscapes before reaching the Lake Nakuru area.

. Does the vehicle have a pop-up roof?

A safari-equipped vehicle with a viewing roof is normally used. The confirmed vehicle type will be stated in your final booking details.

Yes. The package is designed for travellers who prefer scenic overland travel instead of domestic flights.

Normally, the same safari vehicle and guide are used from Nairobi, inside Lake Nakuru and during the return journey.

8. Can we stop at the Great Rift Valley viewpoint?

Yes, when traffic and weather conditions permit. The stop provides an opportunity for photographs and a short explanation of the Rift Valley.

9. Is luggage space limited?

Yes. Soft-sided travel bags are recommended because they are easier to arrange inside a safari vehicle than large hard-shell suitcases.

10. Can the road safari continue to another park?

Yes. The itinerary can continue by road to Maasai Mara, Lake Naivasha, Amboseli or another Kenyan destination
