Explore savannah, woodland and open skies while combining premium birdwatching with classic Mara wildlife.

Our 2-Day Premium Maasai Mara Birding and Wildlife Safari offers bird enthusiasts a private journey through one of Kenya’s richest savannah ecosystems. The road journey from Nairobi covers approximately 260–280 kilometres and normally takes five and a half to six and a half hours, depending on the route and lodge location. After arriving at your premium accommodation, you will enjoy lunch and an afternoon birding drive across open grassland, riverine woodland and seasonal wet areas. Depending on the time of year, you may observe raptors, vultures, storks, bustards, cranes, hornbills, rollers, larks and many smaller species. Our guide will also interpret lions, elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, wildebeest and antelopes encountered during the birding sessions. A second drive takes place during the cooler morning hours before breakfast and the return to Nairobi.

RELATED FAQS ABOUT 2 Days Premium Maasai Mara Birding and Wildlife Safari

    1. Is the Maasai Mara suitable for birdwatching?

Yes. Its grasslands, riverine woodland, seasonal wetlands and open skies support raptors, vultures, ground birds, water-associated birds and many smaller savannah species.

    2. Are binoculars included?

Guests are encouraged to bring their own binoculars because magnification and comfort preferences vary. Rental equipment may be requested but remains subject to availability.

    3. Is a specialist bird guide included?

The standard package includes a safari driver-guide with birding knowledge. A dedicated ornithologist may be requested at an additional cost.

    4. Can beginners join?

Yes. Our guide can explain identification using size, shape, colour, calls, habitat and behaviour, making the tour suitable for beginners and experienced birders.

    5. How many species will we see?

A fixed number cannot be guaranteed. The total depends on season, weather, habitat conditions, observation time and natural bird movement.

    6. Will we also see large mammals?

Yes. Birding is the main theme, but lions, elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, wildebeest and antelopes may also be encountered.

    7. Can we record bird calls?

Yes, from safe and permitted areas. Playback should be used sparingly and responsibly to avoid disturbing birds.

    8. What clothing should birdwatchers wear?

Quiet, neutral-coloured clothing, closed shoes, a hat and sun protection are recommended. A warm layer is useful during the early morning.

    9. Is the package suitable for bird photography?

Yes. A private vehicle provides greater flexibility for long lenses and patient observation. Beanbags or monopods are usually more practical than large tripods.

    10. Can the birding safari be extended?

Yes. Lake Naivasha, Lake Nakuru, Lake Baringo and Kakamega Forest can be added to create a more diverse Kenya birding itinerary.

    Birds and Big Five Wildlife

    5/5

This was an excellent package for a couple with different interests. I concentrated on birds, while my husband was more interested in lions and elephants. Our guide balanced both interests naturally without making either of us feel overlooked. The private vehicle, comfortable camp and varied habitats made the short safari productive and enjoyable.

The private pace was ideal for birdwatching. We were never pressured to move before completing an identification or taking a photograph. Our guide was honest whenever a sighting was uncertain and used habitat and behaviour to narrow down possibilities. The camp was peaceful, food was excellent and the entire experience felt carefully organised.
