Day 1: Nairobi to Samburu – Scenic Northern Journey and Afternoon Safari

Main attractions: Central Kenyan highlands, equatorial scenery, Isiolo landscapes, Ewaso Ng’iro River and first Samburu wildlife encounters

Our professional driver-guide will collect you from your Nairobi hotel, residence or the airport before beginning the scenic journey north. The route passes through agricultural areas and busy towns before reaching the cooler highlands and increasingly dry landscapes beyond Nanyuki and Isiolo. Suitable comfort and photography stops may be arranged along the way. After arriving at your selected luxury lodge or tented camp, you will check in, enjoy lunch and take a short rest. You will later enter Samburu National Reserve for an afternoon game drive, searching for elephants, reticulated giraffes, Grevy’s zebras, gerenuks, antelopes and possible predators. You will return to the lodge for dinner and a comfortable night in the northern wilderness.

You will begin with a morning game drive when temperatures are cooler and wildlife is generally more active. Our guide will explore open scrubland and areas near the river while searching for Grevy’s zebras, Beisa oryx, Somali ostriches, gerenuks, elephants and big cats. After the drive, you will return to the lodge for breakfast, lunch and relaxation. In the afternoon, you will begin a second exploration following a different route according to recent wildlife activity. You may watch elephants approaching the river, giraffes feeding in the bush, lions resting in the shade or leopards moving through riverine vegetation. You will return to the lodge as evening approaches for dinner and overnight.

Your final day begins with an early drive across the peaceful Samburu landscape. This is another opportunity to find animals you may not have seen previously and enjoy the reserve before daytime temperatures rise. You may encounter elephants moving toward water, giraffes feeding among acacia trees and predators returning from nighttime activity. After the game drive, you will return to the lodge for breakfast and check out. Our guide will then drive you back to Nairobi, arranging a suitable lunch and comfort stop before dropping you at your hotel, residence or the airport.
