Book a 3-Day Luxury Samburu Scenic Road Safari from Nairobi with private transport, rare northern wildlife, premium lodging and rewarding game drives.
Experience the beauty of central and northern Kenya on this 3-Day Luxury Samburu Scenic Road Safari from Nairobi. The private drive-in and drive-out journey allows you to appreciate fertile highlands, small towns, distant mountain scenery and semi-arid landscapes before reaching Samburu National Reserve. Inside the reserve, you will enjoy an afternoon game drive, separate morning and afternoon wildlife drives and a final early safari. Our professional driver-guide will help you search for elephants, lions, leopards, Grevy’s zebras, reticulated giraffes, gerenuks, Beisa oryx and Somali ostriches. Between activities, you will stay at a selected luxury lodge or tented camp offering quality meals, attentive hospitality and comfortable wilderness accommodation near the Ewaso Ng’iro ecosystem.
Approximate road distance: 310–325 kilometres
Estimated driving duration: Around 5–6 hours, excluding extended stops
Main attractions: Central Kenyan highlands, equatorial scenery, Isiolo landscapes, Ewaso Ng’iro River and first Samburu wildlife encounters
Our professional driver-guide will collect you from your Nairobi hotel, residence or the airport before beginning the scenic journey north. The route passes through agricultural areas and busy towns before reaching the cooler highlands and increasingly dry landscapes beyond Nanyuki and Isiolo. Suitable comfort and photography stops may be arranged along the way. After arriving at your selected luxury lodge or tented camp, you will check in, enjoy lunch and take a short rest. You will later enter Samburu National Reserve for an afternoon game drive, searching for elephants, reticulated giraffes, Grevy’s zebras, gerenuks, antelopes and possible predators. You will return to the lodge for dinner and a comfortable night in the northern wilderness.
Estimated reserve coverage: Approximately 45–75 kilometres across both drives
Wildlife-viewing period: Around 3–4 hours in the morning and 2½–3 hours in the afternoon
Featured attractions: Samburu Special Five, big cats, elephants, riverine forest, dry bushland and colourful birds
You will begin with a morning game drive when temperatures are cooler and wildlife is generally more active. Our guide will explore open scrubland and areas near the river while searching for Grevy’s zebras, Beisa oryx, Somali ostriches, gerenuks, elephants and big cats. After the drive, you will return to the lodge for breakfast, lunch and relaxation. In the afternoon, you will begin a second exploration following a different route according to recent wildlife activity. You may watch elephants approaching the river, giraffes feeding in the bush, lions resting in the shade or leopards moving through riverine vegetation. You will return to the lodge as evening approaches for dinner and overnight.
Morning game-drive distance: Approximately 15–30 kilometres
Return journey: Approximately 310–325 kilometres
Overall travel duration: Around 2 hours of game viewing followed by 5–6 hours to Nairobi
Final attractions: Sunrise scenery, elephant families, predators, river wildlife and last Special Five sightings
Your final day begins with an early drive across the peaceful Samburu landscape. This is another opportunity to find animals you may not have seen previously and enjoy the reserve before daytime temperatures rise. You may encounter elephants moving toward water, giraffes feeding among acacia trees and predators returning from nighttime activity. After the game drive, you will return to the lodge for breakfast and check out. Our guide will then drive you back to Nairobi, arranging a suitable lunch and comfort stop before dropping you at your hotel, residence or the airport.
