On the first day, we depart from Arusha, the gateway to Tanzania's northern circuit. As you leave the city behind, the urban jungle gives way to the sprawling wilderness of Tarangire National Park. The park is known for its abundant elephant herds, striking baobab trees, and a variety of other wildlife.
