3 Days Midrange Christmas Safari in Samburu Kenya

Our midrange Christmas safari begins when our guide collects you from Nairobi for the approximately 320–350 km drive to Samburu National Reserve. The journey takes around 6–7 hours through cultivated highlands, rural countryside and dry northern scrub before reaching Samburu’s acacia savannah. After checking into your midrange lodge or tented camp, you will take a 2–3-hour afternoon game drive through open plains and thorn bush while searching for elephants, Grevy’s zebras, reticulated giraffes, gerenuks and predators. You will later return to enjoy dinner and the lodge’s available festive atmosphere.

You will begin your festive day with a 3–4-hour morning game drive through dry grassland, acacia woodland, rocky terrain and the riverine forest bordering the Ewaso Ng’iro River. Our guide will search for the Samburu Special Five, elephants, big cats and colourful northern birds. After breakfast and lunch, you will have time to relax at the midrange lodge before taking another approximately 3-hour afternoon game drive through doum-palm groves and open savannah. Around 50–80 km may be covered across both drives, depending on wildlife activity and track conditions.

Our guide will take you on a final 2–3-hour morning game drive covering approximately 20–35 km through acacia bush, open grassland and riverine vegetation. After searching for wildlife during the cooler morning hours, you will return for breakfast and check out. You will then travel approximately 320–350 km back to Nairobi in about 6–7 hours, passing from Samburu’s dry landscape into greener highland vegetation and cultivated countryside.
