3 Days Midrange Kenya Students Safari to Samburu

Our guide will meet the students, teachers and accompanying adults in Nairobi before beginning the approximately 320–350 km journey to Samburu National Reserve. The drive takes about 6–7 hours, although group refreshment and washroom stops may extend the journey. Students will observe the transition from cultivated highland vegetation into dry northern scrub, thorn bush and acacia savannah. After check-in at the selected midrange group accommodation, our safari continues with a 2–3-hour afternoon game drive introducing students to Grevy’s zebras, reticulated giraffes, elephants, gerenuks and other dry-country wildlife.

Students will begin with a 3–4-hour morning game drive through open grassland, acacia woodland, rocky terrain and the riverine forest surrounding the Ewaso Ng’iro River. Our guide will discuss wildlife identification, animal behaviour, habitat adaptation and the conservation importance of the Samburu Special Five. After breakfast, lunch and a supervised rest period at the midrange accommodation, the group will join another approximately 3-hour afternoon drive through doum-palm groves and dry savannah. Approximately 45–70 km may be covered across both drives, depending on wildlife locations, educational stops and track conditions.

The group will begin with a 2–3-hour morning game drive covering approximately 20–35 km through acacia bush, open plains and riverine vegetation. Our guide will help students review the animals, habitats and conservation lessons encountered during the safari. After breakfast, the group will travel approximately 320–350 km back to Nairobi, a journey of around 6–7 hours. The changing landscape from semi-arid scrub to greener highland farmland provides a final opportunity to compare Kenya’s vegetation zones.
