Enjoy a 3-Day Northern Kenya Family Discovery with private Samburu game drives, rare wildlife, child-friendly guiding and luxury accommodation.
Create unforgettable family memories on this 3-Day Northern Kenya Family Discovery from Nairobi. This private luxury safari introduces children, parents and multigenerational families to the remarkable animals and landscapes of Samburu National Reserve. The itinerary offers an afternoon game drive, morning and afternoon wildlife sessions and a final early safari, with time to rest at a selected family-friendly luxury lodge or tented camp. Our guide will explain elephant behaviour, animal adaptations, food chains and the Samburu Special Five in a lively, easy-to-understand manner. A private vehicle allows your family to request comfort stops, spend longer with favourite animals and adjust activities when children or older relatives need a break.
Family travel distance: Approximately 310–325 km
Driving estimate: Around 5–6 hours, plus planned comfort stops
Main experiences: Scenic countryside, changing habitats, luxury lodge arrival and introductory game drive
Our friendly driver-guide will collect your family from Nairobi and assist with luggage before beginning the northbound journey. Comfort stops will be included when needed, helping children and older family members travel more comfortably. On arrival at your selected luxury lodge or tented camp, you will check in, enjoy lunch and take time to settle into your family room or suite. Later, you will begin the first private game drive, searching for elephants, giraffes, zebras, antelopes and possibly predators. The guide will introduce the Samburu Special Five and encourage younger travellers to identify animals and ask questions. Dinner will be served after returning to the lodge.
Reserve exploration: Usually 40–65 km across the day, adjusted for family comfort
Time in the vehicle: About 3 hours in the morning and 2½–3 hours in the afternoon
Family attractions: Elephant herds, rare northern species, river wildlife, animal tracks and birds
Your morning game drive will begin when the temperature is cooler and animals are active. Children may look for Grevy’s zebras, giraffes, elephants and gerenuks while the guide explains how each species survives in Samburu’s dry environment. You will return to the lodge for breakfast and enjoy a relaxed middle part of the day with lunch and optional use of lodge facilities. The afternoon drive will follow a different route, giving the family opportunities to search for lions, leopards, buffaloes and wildlife near the river. The private arrangement makes it possible to shorten the drive or include additional pauses when required.
Final game-drive distance: Approximately 15–25 km
Homeward route: Approximately 310–325 km
Travel schedule: Around 2 hours of wildlife viewing followed by 5–6 hours to Nairobi
Last attractions: Sunrise wildlife, elephant families, birds and final Special Five sightings
Your family will enjoy one last morning game drive before breakfast. Younger travellers may try to remember the names of the Samburu Special Five or identify animals seen during the previous day. After taking final photographs, you will return to the lodge for breakfast and check out. The drive to Nairobi will include appropriate meal and comfort stops before drop-off at your hotel, home or airport.
