Our 3-Day Premium Samburu Christmas River Retreat offers couples, families and friends a distinctive festive holiday in northern Kenya. The private road journey from Nairobi covers approximately 320 kilometres and normally takes six to seven hours, although holiday traffic may affect the schedule. After arriving at your premium lodge or luxury tented camp, you will enjoy lunch and an afternoon wildlife drive. Day 2 includes separate morning and afternoon safaris, allowing you to spend the warmer midday hours enjoying festive meals and lodge activities. Your final morning includes another wildlife experience before breakfast and the return to Nairobi. Possible sightings include elephants, lions, reticulated giraffes, Grevy’s zebras, gerenuks, Beisa oryx and Somali ostriches. Christmas decorations, special dinners, family activities and entertainment depend on the confirmed lodge programme.

Day 1: Christmas Journey to Samburu

Festive Nairobi Departure

At approximately 5:30 AM in Nairobi, our driver-guide will collect you from your confirmed location and welcome you to the Christmas safari. Gifts and luggage will be arranged safely before the northern Kenya journey begins.

Christmas Lodge Arrival

At around 12:30–1:30 PM in the Samburu area, you will check into your premium lodge or luxury camp and enjoy lunch. Decorations, festive music or family activities may be available according to the property’s programme.

Christmas Afternoon Safari

From approximately 3:30 PM to 6:30 PM inside Samburu National Reserve, our guide will search for elephants, giraffes, Grevy’s zebras and other wildlife. You will return for dinner and any confirmed festive evening activities.

Day 2: Morning and Afternoon Festive Safaris

Holiday Morning Wildlife Drive

At around 6:00 AM inside Samburu National Reserve, you will begin a cooler wildlife safari along riverine and dryland habitats. Our guide will search for active elephants, predators and Special Five species.

Festive Breakfast and Lodge Leisure

At approximately 9:00 AM at your premium accommodation, you will return for breakfast and festive leisure time. Lunch and any confirmed lodge activities will be enjoyed before the afternoon safari.

Christmas Evening Game Drive

From around 3:30 PM to 6:30 PM inside the reserve, our guide will explore another wildlife area in the warm evening light. You will return to the lodge for a festive dinner or entertainment programme.

Day 3: Final Holiday Safari and Nairobi Return

Christmas-Season Sunrise Drive

At approximately 6:00 AM inside Samburu National Reserve, you will enjoy a final holiday safari before the reserve becomes busier. Our guide will search for rare northern wildlife and elephants near productive areas.

Breakfast and Festive Check-Out

At around 9:00 AM at the lodge, you will return for breakfast and complete any confirmed morning activities. Luggage will be organised before check-out.

Holiday Return Journey

From around 10:00 AM, you will travel approximately 320 kilometres back to Nairobi with lunch and comfort stops. Holiday traffic may influence the final arrival time.
