Our 3-Day Premium Samburu Student Dryland Ecology Safari is designed for schools, universities, conservation clubs and organised youth groups seeking field-based environmental learning. Students will travel approximately 320 kilometres from Nairobi to Samburu, with the road journey normally taking six to seven hours. During the transfer and wildlife drives, our guide will introduce central and northern Kenya geography, arid-land ecosystems, animal adaptation, river ecology, food chains, conservation and responsible tourism. The programme includes an afternoon field drive, separate morning and afternoon study sessions on Day 2 and a final observation drive before returning to Nairobi. Students may observe elephants, reticulated giraffes, Grevy’s zebras, gerenuks, Beisa oryx, Somali ostriches, predators and birds. Teachers or authorised leaders remain responsible for student supervision, while our guide manages reserve interpretation, wildlife safety and field activities.

Day 1: Nairobi to Samburu Field Study

Student Assembly and Departure

At approximately 5:00 AM in Nairobi, students will meet at the confirmed school, university, hotel or meeting point. Teachers will complete attendance while our guide explains vehicle rules, the road journey and learning expectations.

Northern Kenya Geography Transfer

Between 5:30 AM and 12:30 PM, the group will travel toward Samburu with supervised breakfast and comfort stops. Our guide will introduce changing land use, vegetation, settlement and climate along the route.

First Dryland Ecology Drive

At around 1:00 PM, students will check into the selected lodge or camp and enjoy lunch. From approximately 3:30 PM to 6:15 PM inside Samburu, the group will study riverine habitats, dry bushland and animal adaptation.

Day 2: Morning and Afternoon Field Sessions

River Ecosystem Observation

At around 6:00 AM inside Samburu National Reserve, students will begin a morning field drive near the Ewaso Nyiro River. The guide will explain water dependence, vegetation, food chains and wildlife distribution.

Breakfast and Group Learning Review

At approximately 9:00 AM at the accommodation, students will return for breakfast and a supervised midday break. Teachers may review field notes, species lists and observation assignments before lunch.

Dryland Adaptation Study

From around 3:30 PM to 6:15 PM inside the reserve, students will observe Grevy’s zebras, gerenuks, giraffes, oryx and other wildlife where available. The guide will explain physical and behavioural adaptations to arid conditions.

Day 3: Final Observation and Nairobi Return

Morning Conservation Session

At approximately 6:15 AM inside Samburu National Reserve, students will complete a final wildlife drive focused on conservation, tourism and the relationship between water, animals and surrounding communities.

Breakfast and Learning Summary

At around 9:00 AM at the accommodation, the group will return for breakfast and a short summary discussion. Students will organise their luggage and complete room check-out.

Supervised Journey to Nairobi

From around 10:00 AM, the group will travel approximately 320 kilometres back to Nairobi. A supervised lunch and comfort stop will be arranged before final drop-off.
