Day 1: Nairobi to Samburu – Afternoon Wildlife Safari

Nairobi to Samburu – Afternoon Wildlife Safari

Our Kenya cultural safari begins when our guide collects you from Nairobi for the approximately 320–350 km drive to Samburu National Reserve. The journey takes around 6–7 hours through cultivated highland vegetation, rural communities and increasingly dry northern scrub before reaching Samburu’s acacia-dotted savannah. After checking into your midrange lodge or camp, you will begin a 2–3-hour afternoon game drive through open grassland and thorn bush. Our guide will help you search for elephants, Grevy’s zebras, reticulated giraffes, gerenuks and other wildlife before returning to your accommodation.

Samburu Game Drives and Cultural Experience

You will begin with a 3-hour morning game drive through acacia woodland, rocky landscapes and riverine vegetation along the Ewaso Ng’iro River. After breakfast, our guide will accompany you to a locally hosted Samburu cultural experience lasting approximately 1–2 hours, where community members may share aspects of pastoral life, traditional homes, clothing, music and local customs. Photography will only take place with permission. Later, you will enjoy a 3-hour afternoon game drive across dry savannah and doum-palm riverbanks. Approximately 45–70 km may be covered during the two wildlife drives, depending on animal movements and road conditions.
