3 Days Samburu Golden-Light Midrange Photographic Safari

Your Samburu photographic safari begins when our guide collects you from your Nairobi hotel or another agreed location. You will travel approximately 320–350 km in about 6–7 hours, passing through Kenya’s central highlands, cultivated farmland and changing dry-country vegetation before reaching Samburu’s semi-arid thorn scrub, open savannah and acacia woodland. After lunch and check-in at your midrange lodge or tented camp, our safari continues with a 2–3-hour afternoon photographic game drive. Our guide will look for Grevy’s zebras, reticulated giraffes, elephants, gerenuks, Beisa oryx and big cats while positioning the vehicle responsibly for photographs in the softer evening light.

You will leave the lodge early for a 3–4-hour sunrise photographic game drive through Samburu’s dry grasslands, acacia woodland, rocky outcrops and doum-palm-lined riverbanks. Our guide will help you search for the Samburu Special Five—Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, gerenuk, Beisa oryx and Somali ostrich—together with elephants, lions, leopards and cheetahs. After returning to the lodge for breakfast, lunch and rest, you will begin another 3-hour afternoon game drive around the Ewaso Ng’iro River and surrounding riverine forest. Approximately 50–80 km may be covered across both drives, although the exact distance depends on wildlife locations and track conditions.

Our final photographic game drive begins shortly after sunrise and lasts approximately 2–3 hours, covering around 20–35 km depending on the movement of wildlife. You will explore open bushland, acacia savannah and the dense riverine vegetation bordering the Ewaso Ng’iro River, where our guide will search for elephants, antelopes, predators and colourful birds. After breakfast, you will leave Samburu and travel approximately 320–350 km back to Nairobi. This return journey normally takes 6–7 hours through northern scrubland, fertile highlands and agricultural countryside, with arrival expected in the late afternoon or early evening.
