RELATED FAQS ABOUT 3 Days Tanzania Luxury Fly-in Drive-out Safari

    What is a "Fly-In Drive-Out" safari?

You begin by taking a domestic flight from Arusha or Zanzibar directly to a Serengeti airstrip. After your stay, you drive back through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, allowing you to see different landscapes and parks on the return journey.

Does the flight have luggage restrictions?

Yes. For safety on small aircraft, there is a strict limit of 15kg (33 lbs) per person, and bags must be soft-sided (duffel style) to fit in the cargo pod.

What are the benefits of flying into the park?

It saves nearly a full day of travel. Instead of driving 7–8 hours to reach the Serengeti, you arrive in about 50 minutes, allowing for a mid-morning game drive on your very first day.

    Is the flight scenic?

Absolutely. You’ll get a "birds-eye" view of the Great Rift Valley, the Ngorongoro Highlands, and the endless plains of the Serengeti—an incredible photo opportunity.

Will I have the same guide for the whole trip?

Usually, your dedicated driver-guide will meet you at the Serengeti airstrip with your private 4x4 vehicle and stay with you for the duration of the 3 days, including the drive back.

Where do we spend the nights?

This luxury package typically includes one night in a high-end Serengeti tented camp and one night at a luxury lodge on the Ngorongoro Crater rim.

Is the drive back to Arusha very long?

While the drive is longer than the flight, it is broken up by a visit to the Ngorongoro Crater and stops at Maasai villages or viewpoints, making it an immersive cultural experience.

What kind of aircraft are used?

We partner with reputable bush airlines like Regional Air or Coastal Aviation, using well-maintained Cessna Grand Caravans or similar turboprop aircraft.

Is this safari suitable for people with motion sickness?

The flight is short and smooth, but if you are sensitive to small planes, we recommend morning flights when the air is coolest and calmest.

Can I fly in from Zanzibar instead of Arusha?

Yes! We can easily arrange a flight from Zanzibar to the Serengeti for Day 1, then you drive out to Arusha on Day 3 to catch your flight home or back to the island.

The Perfect Blend of Scenic Flights and Safari Adventure

    5/5

The fly-in option was a game changer. We were watching a pride of lions in the Serengeti by 10:30 AM, while other travelers were still halfway through their dusty drive from Arusha. Flying over the crater was a visual masterpiece. The transition from the air to our private 4x4 was seamless, and the drive back through Ngorongoro allowed us to see th...

Luxury and Efficiency in a Short Tanzania Escape

    5/5

I was worried about the 15kg luggage limit, but it forced us to pack light, and the luxury lodges provided excellent laundry service anyway. The flight into Seronera Airstrip was thrilling and saved us so much energy. We spent the saved time enjoying sundowners at our camp rather than sitting in a car. The drive-out portion was equally lovely as we...

For our 30th anniversary, this was the best decision. The aerial views of the Great Migration from the bush plane were something out of a documentary. Our guide, Peter, met us with a chilled bottle of champagne at the airstrip! Driving out gave us the chance to see the Ngorongoro Crater floor, which was teeming with rhinos and hippos. It felt like ...

If you have limited time in Tanzania, do the fly-in drive-out. You get the speed of a jet-setter and the soul of a road-tripper. The Serengeti camp was pure luxury—think copper bathtubs and gourmet four-course meals under the stars. The drive back to Arusha was a bit long, but stopping at the Karatu markets for coffee and souvenirs made it a great ...

Exceptional service from start to finish. The small plane flight was smooth, and seeing the 'endless plains' from above helps you realize the scale of the Serengeti. An Exclusive Safari That Maximizes Every Moment

As an avid photographer, the fly-in provided perspectives of the landscape I couldn't get from the ground. Then, the drive-out allowed me to capture the cultural side of Tanzania near Lake Manyara and the highland farms. The lodges were top-tier, especially the one on the Crater rim. Excellent organization, perfectly maintained vehicles, and a...
