Your safari begins with a warm welcome at Kilimanjaro International Airport where your guide meets you and assists with your transfer to Arusha town, located about 50 km away. The journey takes roughly one hour and offers scenic views of coffee plantations, local villages, and the impressive silhouette of Mount Meru. After checking into your lodge, guests can relax in the gardens or enjoy the peaceful atmosphere after their international flight. Later in the evening your guide will introduce the safari itinerary and provide details about the upcoming wildlife adventure including the special night game-drive experience. Day 1: Arusha to Central Serengeti – Afternoon Game Drive

After breakfast depart Arusha for the legendary Serengeti National Park, traveling approximately 335 km through the beautiful landscapes of the Ngorongoro Highlands. The drive offers breathtaking scenery including volcanic mountains, Maasai grazing lands, and dramatic valleys. Upon entering Serengeti in the afternoon your first game drive begins across the endless golden plains. Wildlife sightings often include giraffes, zebras, elephants, antelopes, and predators such as lions resting near rocky kopjes. Today offers an unforgettable safari experience exploring Serengeti throughout the day and into the night. The morning game drive reveals predators such as lions and cheetahs, while massive herds of wildebeest and zebras move across the plains. After a picnic lunch surrounded by nature, the afternoon game drive continues through different wildlife habitats including river valleys and acacia woodlands. Later in the evening, a special night game drive allows you to witness Serengeti’s nocturnal wildlife. During your game drive you may encounter lions, elephants, buffalo, zebras, flamingos, and hippos around the crater lake. After enjoying a scenic picnic lunch, begin the return journey to Arusha covering approximately 180 km through the stunning highland landscapes.

Typically, a night safari lasts between 2 and 3 hours. It usually begins after an early dinner (around 8:00 PM) and returns to the lodge by 11:00 PM.

Will I be able to take photos in the dark?

Photography is challenging. While the guides use spotlights, flash photography is often prohibited to protect the animals' eyes. High-ISO settings and "night mode" on modern cameras are recommended.

What should I wear?

The temperature in the African bush drops significantly after sunset. You should wear layers, including a warm fleece or windbreaker, long trousers, and closed-toe shoes.

Are children allowed on night game drives?

Many luxury lodges have age restrictions (usually 12 years and older) for night drives due to the silence and patience required, though some private concessions are more flexible.

Do I need a special permit?
