You will leave Nairobi with our professional guide and travel through the Great Rift Valley toward the Maasai Mara. Along the way, you may begin identifying common roadside and highland bird species. After reaching your luxury lodge or tented camp, you will enjoy lunch and prepare binoculars, cameras and checklists. Your afternoon game drive will explore open grasslands and scattered woodland in search of rollers, raptors, bustards, vultures and other Mara birds. You will also have opportunities to see elephants, giraffes, zebras and predators before returning to the lodge for dinner.

Day 2: Full-Day Maasai Mara Birding and Wildlife Safari

Main attractions: Secretary birds, eagles, vultures, ground hornbills, riverine birds, lions and elephants

After breakfast, you will leave with a picnic lunch and explore several Maasai Mara habitats. The guide will listen for bird calls, scan trees and open plains and stop for both common and less frequently seen species. You may observe secretary birds walking through the grass, eagles watching from exposed branches, vultures circling overhead and colourful rollers beside the tracks. Riverine areas may introduce additional species and large mammals. Your picnic lunch will be served at an authorised location before birding and wildlife viewing continue through the afternoon.

After breakfast and check-out, you will begin the journey toward Lake Naivasha. The route passes through changing habitats that may produce roadside raptors, storks and farmland species. After arriving at your luxury lakeside lodge, you will check in and enjoy lunch or refreshments. The afternoon may include relaxed birdwatching within the lodge grounds, where acacia trees and gardens can attract sunbirds, weavers, starlings and other species. You may also begin identifying waterbirds from safe lakeside viewpoints.

Day 4: Lake Naivasha Waterbird Experience – Nairobi

Lake Naivasha Waterbird Experience – Nairobi

Morning birding area: Approximately 10–25 kilometres
Return distance: Approximately 90–100 kilometres
Estimated duration: About 2–3 hours of birding and 1½–2 hours by road
Final attractions: African fish eagles, pelicans, cormorants, kingfishers, herons, hippos and Crescent Island wildlife

Your final morning will focus on Lake Naivasha’s freshwater birdlife. Depending on the confirmed activity, you may enjoy a boat safari, a Crescent Island walk or lakeside birdwatching. The guide will help you identify fish eagles, kingfishers, pelicans, cormorants, herons and smaller wetland species while also watching for hippos and terrestrial wildlife. After breakfast and check-out, you will drive to Nairobi for drop-off.
