You will leave Nairobi with our professional guide and travel through the Great Rift Valley toward the Maasai Mara. You may begin identifying common roadside birds as the landscape changes from highlands to open grassland. After reaching your luxury lodge or tented camp, you will enjoy lunch and prepare binoculars, cameras and checklists. The afternoon drive will focus on raptors, rollers, bustards, vultures and other grassland species while also providing opportunities to see elephants, giraffes, zebras and predators.

Day 2: Full-Day Maasai Mara Birding and Wildlife Safari

Estimated field coverage: 50–90 kilometres
Birding time: Approximately 7–9 hours
Main attractions: Secretary birds, eagles, vultures, hornbills, lions and elephants

After breakfast, you will leave with a picnic lunch and explore different Maasai Mara habitats. Your guide will listen for calls, scan trees and open plains and stop for both small birds and larger wildlife. You may observe secretary birds hunting in the grass, raptors perched on exposed branches, vultures circling overhead and colourful rollers beside the tracks. Riverine areas can produce additional bird species and mammals. Lunch will be served at an authorised location before the afternoon birding experience continues.

Expected travel time: 4½–6 hours
Birding attractions: Highland birds, farmland species and first Lake Nakuru sightings

After breakfast and check-out, you will travel toward Lake Nakuru. During the transfer, you may see roadside raptors, storks and farmland birds. On arrival, you will check in at your luxury lodge and enjoy lunch or refreshments. Depending on arrival time, you may enjoy relaxed birdwatching around the lodge grounds, where gardens and surrounding vegetation can attract sunbirds, weavers and starlings.

Your final morning will focus on the diverse birdlife of Lake Nakuru National Park. Depending on seasonal and water conditions, you may observe flamingos, pelicans, cormorants, herons, eagles and woodland species. The game drive also provides opportunities to see rhinos, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras and baboons. After completing the morning activity, you will drive to Nairobi for drop-off.
