Day 1: Nairobi to Maasai Mara – Environmental Introduction

Nairobi to Maasai Mara – Environmental Introduction

Distance: Approximately 260–280 kilometres
Travel time: Around 5–6 hours
Learning attractions: Great Rift Valley, land use, tourism and introductory wildlife ecology

Students and group leaders will be collected from an agreed Nairobi location before travelling toward the Maasai Mara. During the journey, the guide may discuss Rift Valley geography, rural livelihoods, agriculture and tourism. After arriving at the luxury lodge or tented camp, the group will check in, enjoy lunch and receive a safety briefing. The afternoon game drive will introduce wildlife identification, habitats and basic ecological relationships.

Day 2: Full-Day Maasai Mara Conservation Field Study

Full-Day Maasai Mara Conservation Field Study

Field distance: Approximately 50–90 kilometres
Study time: Around 7–9 hours
Learning attractions: Predators, herbivores, migration, food chains and park management

After breakfast, students will leave with picnic lunches for a full day inside the Maasai Mara. The guide may explain lion social behaviour, elephant family structures, grazing patterns, scavengers and predator-prey relationships. Discussions can also cover conservation challenges, safari guiding and tourism’s economic role. Students will be able to record observations and take photographs from inside the vehicle.

Maasai Mara to Lake Nakuru – Rift Valley Learning Journey

Distance: Approximately 230–250 kilometres
Driving time: Around 4½–6 hours
Learning attractions: Agriculture, settlements, highlands and changing ecosystems

After breakfast, the group will check out and travel toward Lake Nakuru. The guide may discuss land use, agricultural development and differences between the Mara and Rift Valley environments. On arrival, students will check in at the selected luxury lodge and enjoy lunch or refreshments. The afternoon can be used for group discussion and preparation for the final field activity.

Day 4: Lake Nakuru Conservation Game Drive – Nairobi

Lake Nakuru Conservation Game Drive – Nairobi

Field-drive distance: Approximately 25–50 kilometres
Return distance: Approximately 155–165 kilometres
Activity time: Around 3–4 hours of field study and 2½–3½ hours to Nairobi
Learning attractions: Rhinos, birdlife, lake ecology and conservation management

The final morning drive will focus on Lake Nakuru’s rhinos, giraffes, buffaloes, baboons and birdlife. Students will learn about rhino protection, habitat management and the relationship between water levels and bird populations. After completing the field activity, the group will travel to Nairobi for drop-off at the agreed location.
