4 Days Luxury Samburu and Ol Pejeta Wildlife Safari

Scenic Road Transfer

Pickup from JKIA or your Nairobi hotel is arranged between 6:30 and 7:00 a.m. Travel north through Thika, Karatina, Nanyuki and Isiolo on a 310–330 km journey requiring approximately 5½–6½ hours of driving, excluding a refreshment stop. Your guide will introduce the landscapes and wildlife ahead. Reach Samburu around 1:00 p.m. for lunch, check-in and a short rest.

First Wildlife Search

Leave at approximately 3:30 p.m. for a three-hour drive through open plains, acacia scrub and riverine woodland beside the Ewaso Ng'iro. Search for elephants, giraffes, zebras, antelopes, birds and predators while the guide interprets tracks, behaviour and habitat. Wildlife moves freely, so the route will respond to current conditions rather than follow a guaranteed sighting list. Return around sunset for dinner and overnight.

Cool-Hour Activity

Begin at approximately 6:15 a.m. with tea or coffee before a 2½–3-hour drive. Search riverbanks and open country for Grevy's zebra, gerenuk, reticulated giraffe, Beisa oryx, Somali ostrich and other Samburu wildlife. Elephants and big cats may also occur, but their presence cannot be promised.

Safari Pause

Return around 9:15 a.m. for breakfast. Spend the late morning at leisure, use the lodge facilities and have lunch at approximately 1:00 p.m. This break gives guests time to rest during the warmer part of the day.

Second Exploration

Depart again around 3:30 p.m. for a different section of the reserve. Follow the guide's assessment of water, tracks and recent wildlife movement. Afternoon light may reveal animals approaching the river or leaving the shade. Return at approximately 6:30 p.m. for dinner and overnight.

Final Samburu Drive

Leave camp around 6:15 a.m. for a final game drive of approximately two hours. Revisit a productive habitat or explore a new route based on recent observations. Return for breakfast and complete check-out around 9:30 a.m. Your luggage will travel securely in the safari vehicle.

Laikipia Wildlife

The transfer to Ol Pejeta covers 130–160 km and usually takes three to four hours via Isiolo and Nanyuki. Arrive for a late lunch before an afternoon drive across Laikipia grassland and acacia bush. Ol Pejeta supports the Big Five, but no particular encounter is guaranteed. Search for rhinos, buffaloes, elephants, predators and plains wildlife before continuing to the premium camp for dinner.

Conservation Encounters

Breakfast is served at approximately 6:30 a.m., followed by check-out and a final drive. Visit the protected northern white rhino area when accessible and learn about conservation and research. Continue to Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary during its public morning session. Chimpanzees move within large enclosures, so visibility and proximity vary naturally.

Safari Conclusion

Have lunch at approximately 12:30–1:00 p.m., then depart for Nairobi. The 210–230 km drive normally requires four to five hours, depending on the gate and city traffic. Expected arrival is between 5:30 and 7:00 p.m. Your guide will drop you at JKIA, a Nairobi hotel or another agreed location. Same-day international flights should preferably depart after 9:00 p.m.
