Day 1: Nairobi to Maasai Mara – Afternoon Photographic Game Drive

Nairobi to Maasai Mara – Afternoon Photographic Game Drive

Our Kenya photographic safari begins with pickup from your Nairobi hotel, airport or agreed meeting point, followed by an approximately 270-kilometre road journey taking about 5½ to 6½ hours, depending on traffic and road conditions. You will pass through Nairobi’s outskirts, the Great Rift Valley escarpment, highland farming areas and open savannah before reaching the Maasai Mara region. After lunch and check-in at your midrange lodge or tented camp, you will begin an afternoon photographic game drive lasting approximately 2½ to 3 hours and covering around 25 to 45 kilometres inside the reserve. The main habitat will be open grassland, scattered acacia woodland and seasonal drainage areas where you may photograph zebras, giraffes, elephants, antelopes and predators. Our guide will help you use the softer evening light while allowing enough time to observe natural animal behaviour.

Maasai Mara to Lake Nakuru – Rift Valley Landscape Journey

Following breakfast, our photographic journey will leave the Maasai Mara and continue approximately 260 kilometres toward Lake Nakuru, with the road transfer taking about 5½ to 6½ hours. The habitat and scenery will gradually change from Mara grasslands and pastoral areas to cultivated highlands, escarpment landscapes, roadside settlements and the wooded environment surrounding Nakuru. Our guide will make suitable comfort and landscape-photography stops without delaying the journey unnecessarily. After arriving at your midrange accommodation near Lake Nakuru, you will check in and spend the evening resting, cleaning your lenses, charging camera batteries and preparing for the next morning’s photography session.

You will begin the final day with a Lake Nakuru photographic game drive lasting approximately 3 to 4 hours and covering around 35 to 60 kilometres inside the park. Your safari will pass through alkaline lakeshore habitat, yellow-barked acacia or fever-tree woodland, open grassland, rocky escarpments and dense bush. Our guide will search for rhinos, buffaloes, giraffes, baboons, antelopes, waterbirds and other species while helping you capture a completely different environment from the Maasai Mara. After the game drive, you will travel approximately 160 kilometres from Nakuru to Nairobi, a journey of about 3 to 4 hours through highland farms and Rift Valley scenery.
