4 Days Midrange Kenya Student Road Tour: Mara

Our guide will meet the students, teachers and accompanying adults in Nairobi before beginning the 260–280 km drive to Maasai Mara. The transfer takes approximately 5–6 hours, although scheduled group breaks may extend it. During the journey, students will observe highland farms, Great Rift Valley landforms and the gradual transition into grassland and acacia savannah. After checking into the selected midrange group accommodation, the students will take a 2–3-hour afternoon game drive introducing them to Mara wildlife, habitat relationships and responsible reserve behaviour.

Students will spend approximately 7–9 hours studying Maasai Mara’s open plains, riverine forest, acacia woodland and seasonal wetlands. Depending on the group’s learning stops and wildlife distribution, the vehicle may cover around 70–110 km. Our guide will discuss food chains, predator behaviour, herbivore adaptation, tourism and conservation while the group observes elephants, giraffes, zebras, antelopes and possibly big cats. A picnic lunch will be served at a designated site before the field experience continues.

The students will travel approximately 230–250 km from Maasai Mara to Lake Naivasha in around 5–6 hours. Along the route, our guide will highlight the transition from savannah and acacia scrub to agricultural land, volcanic formations and the freshwater environment surrounding Naivasha. After checking into midrange group accommodation, students can observe papyrus reeds, lakeshore grassland and birdlife around the property while comparing this ecosystem with Maasai Mara.

The group will take a supervised 1-hour boat safari covering approximately 5–10 km along the lake’s open water and papyrus beds. Students may observe fish eagles, pelicans, kingfishers, cormorants and hippos while learning about freshwater food webs and lake conservation. A guided 1½–2-hour Crescent Island walk covering roughly 2–4 km will introduce the group to grassland and acacia woodland species. Afterwards, the students will travel approximately 90–100 km to Nairobi in about 2–2½ hours
