Day 1: Nairobi to Maasai Mara – Afternoon Birdwatching Drive

Nairobi to Maasai Mara – Afternoon Birdwatching Drive

Our guide will collect you from Nairobi for the approximately 260–280 km journey to Maasai Mara, which takes around 5–6 hours. As you travel through highland farmland, Great Rift Valley escarpments and open rural vegetation, you may observe roadside raptors during suitable stops. After checking into your midrange camp, you will join a 2–3-hour afternoon birdwatching drive through grassland and acacia savannah while looking for rollers, bustards, secretary birds, hornbills, eagles and vultures.

Day 2: Full-Day Maasai Mara Birdwatching Safari

Full-Day Maasai Mara Birdwatching Safari

You will spend approximately 7–9 hours exploring Maasai Mara’s grasslands, acacia woodland, riverine forest and seasonal wetlands. Our guide will help you identify raptors, ground birds, water-associated species and colourful savannah birds while also watching for lions, elephants, giraffes and other mammals. Depending on bird activity, approximately 70–110 km may be covered during the full-day drive. You will enjoy a picnic lunch inside the reserve before continuing to another productive habitat.

Day 3: Maasai Mara to Lake Naivasha

Maasai Mara to Lake Naivasha

After breakfast, you will travel approximately 230–250 km to Lake Naivasha in about 5–6 hours. The vegetation changes from Mara grasslands and acacia bush to cultivated Rift Valley farmland and the lake’s papyrus-fringed freshwater ecosystem. After checking into your midrange lodge, you may explore the grounds for sunbirds, weavers, starlings, doves and other lakeside species.

Day 4: Lake Naivasha Birding Experience – Nairobi

Lake Naivasha Birding Experience – Nairobi

Your morning begins with an approximately 1-hour boat safari covering around 5–10 km along papyrus beds and open water. Our guide and boat captain will help you look for African fish eagles, pelicans, cormorants, herons, kingfishers and other waterbirds. You will then join a 1½–2-hour Crescent Island walk covering about 2–4 km through lakeshore grassland and acacia woodland. Afterwards, you will travel approximately 90–100 km to Nairobi in about 2–2½ hours.
