4 Days Premium Kenya Road Safari: Samburu and Ol Pejeta

The Northern Road

Your private guide will collect you from JKIA or an agreed Nairobi hotel between 6:30 and 7:00 a.m. The 310–330 km drive follows the Thika, Karatina, Nanyuki and Isiolo corridor and normally requires 5½–6½ hours, excluding refreshment and photography stops. Watch the landscape change from busy city outskirts and productive highlands to the drier northern country. A scheduled comfort stop near the Mount Kenya region gives you time to stretch before continuing to Samburu.

Arrival in the Wild

Reach your premium lodge or tented camp at about 1:00 p.m. for check-in and lunch, then rest until approximately 3:30 p.m. Your first game drive lasts close to three hours and explores acacia scrub, open country and the Ewaso Ng'iro River corridor. Your guide will interpret tracks, animal behaviour and changing habitats while searching responsibly for wildlife. Return around sunset for dinner and overnight in Samburu

Early Tracks

Tea or coffee is available before a 6:15 a.m. departure. During a 2½–3-hour game drive, explore cooler riverbank and open-plain habitats where wildlife activity may be easier to observe. Search for Samburu's distinctive northern species, elephants, antelopes, birds and predators without treating any encounter as guaranteed. Your guide will adjust the route according to road conditions and recent wildlife movement.

A Comfortable Pause

Return at about 9:15 a.m. for breakfast. Late morning is free for the pool, veranda or quiet lodge time. Lunch is normally served at approximately 1:00 p.m., followed by a rest during the warmer part of the day.

Evening Exploration

Leave again around 3:30 p.m. for another three-hour drive along different tracks. The softer evening light brings depth to Samburu's hills, doum palms and riverine woodland. Return at approximately 6:30 p.m. for refreshments, dinner and a briefing about the following day's journey to Ol Pejeta.

One Last Samburu Search

Depart at approximately 6:15 a.m. for a final two-hour game drive. The guide may revisit a productive river area or explore a new section according to the previous day's observations. Return for breakfast, complete lodge check-out at about 9:30 a.m. and secure the luggage in the safari vehicle before leaving the reserve.

Across Isiolo and Nanyuki

The 130–160 km road transfer to Ol Pejeta usually takes three to four hours, depending on your Samburu accommodation, the selected conservancy gate and traffic through Nanyuki. Arrive for a late lunch and a short rest. An afternoon introductory drive then crosses Laikipia grassland and acacia bush while your guide searches for rhinos, buffaloes, elephants, zebras and other wildlife. Continue to the selected premium camp before dark for dinner and overnight. Optional Ol Pejeta activities require advance booking and may alter the schedule.

Rhinos and Rescued Chimpanzees

Have breakfast at approximately 6:30 a.m., check out and begin a final Ol Pejeta drive. The route can include the northern white rhino area when visitor access is available, followed by the Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary during its morning visiting period. Your guide will explain the conservancy's protection work while allowing respectful viewing and photography. Chimpanzees move within their enclosures, so proximity and visibility vary naturally.

Return Through Central Kenya

Lunch is planned at approximately 12:30–1:00 p.m. before the road journey south. Ol Pejeta to Nairobi covers 210–230 km and normally takes four to five hours, although traffic can extend the drive. Expected arrival is between 5:30 and 7:00 p.m. Drop-off is available at JKIA, an agreed Nairobi hotel or a residence within the confirmed service area. A same-day international flight should preferably depart after 9:00 p.m.
