Our 4-Day Premium Mara Wings & Savannah Wildlife Journey is designed for birdwatchers who want enough time to explore the reserve’s open grasslands, woodland, riverine corridors and seasonal wetlands. Your private safari begins with a road journey from Nairobi, followed by an afternoon birding game drive, two complete days inside the Maasai Mara and a final morning activity before returning to the city. Possible bird sightings include vultures, eagles, hawks, bustards, cranes, storks, rollers, hornbills, weavers and many smaller savannah species. Lions, elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, wildebeest and antelopes may also be encountered along the birding routes. The private vehicle allows patient identification, checklist discussions, bird photography and flexible observation time.

Day 1: Nairobi to Maasai Mara Birding Country

Morning Raptors and Grassland Species

At around 6:00 AM, you will begin a full-day birding drive while many species are active and temperatures remain cooler. Our guide will search open plains, woodland and riverine areas while allowing enough time for identification, photography and behavioural observation. Large mammals may add variety to the morning experience.

Checklist Picnic and Afternoon Birds

At approximately 12:30 PM, you will enjoy a picnic lunch and review the morning checklist using photographs or field guides. From around 2:00 PM to 5:30 PM, you will explore another habitat for vultures, eagles, ground birds and seasonal species. You will return to your premium accommodation for dinner.

Day 3: Second Full-Day Birding Exploration

Riverine and Woodland Bird Search

At approximately 6:00 AM, your guide will select a route that complements the habitats explored on Day 2. Greater attention may be given to riverine woodland, wetland edges or less-visited grasslands in search of new species and bird behaviour. Lions, elephants and other mammals may still be observed without changing the birding focus.

Midday Review and Evening Birding

After a picnic lunch at around 12:30 PM, you will continue through areas that may produce raptors, storks, bustards, hornbills and smaller savannah birds. The private vehicle allows additional time for uncertain identifications and photography. You will return to the lodge before dinner and complete a detailed species review.

Day 4: Final Morning Birding and Nairobi

Sunrise Bird Activity

At around 6:00 AM, you will complete a final birding game drive focused on habitats and species not fully covered during the previous days. Morning calls, feeding behaviour and cooler conditions may create rewarding observation opportunities. The drive normally ends between 8:30 AM and 9:00 AM.

Breakfast and Final Checklist

After breakfast at approximately 9:00 AM, you will review the final bird list and organise your binoculars, cameras and luggage. The journey to Nairobi begins at around 10:00–10:30 AM and normally takes five and a half to six and a half hours. A lunch or refreshment stop will be arranged.
