Explore Kenya on a 4-day premium Rift Valley road safari to Maasai Mara and Lake Nakuru with private drives, luxury lodging and rhinos.
Our 4-Day Premium Rift Valley Road Journey to Mara & Nakuru combines Kenya’s changing landscapes with rewarding wildlife experiences across two contrasting national parks. You will travel privately from Nairobi through the Great Rift Valley to Maasai Mara, where an afternoon drive and a full-day safari provide opportunities to observe lions, elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, wildebeest, cheetahs and birds. On Day 3, the journey continues through Narok to Lake Nakuru, whose woodland, grasslands and lakeshore habitats offer a completely different atmosphere. Your final morning focuses on rhinos, Rothschild’s giraffes, buffaloes, possible predators and waterbirds before returning to Nairobi. Private transport, premium lodging and carefully arranged stops make this an enjoyable drive-in, drive-out Kenya safari.
Great Rift Valley Departure
At approximately 5:30 AM in Nairobi, our driver-guide will collect you from your hotel, residence or agreed meeting point. You will begin the 260–280-kilometre journey through the Great Rift Valley and Narok, with breakfast, refreshments and a comfort stop arranged along the route. The private transfer normally takes five and a half to six and a half hours.
Premium Mara Arrival
At around 12:00–1:00 PM near Maasai Mara, you will check into your premium lodge or luxury tented camp and enjoy lunch. The early afternoon provides time to freshen up, organise cameras and relax after the road journey. Our guide will also introduce the reserve and explain the first game-drive plan.
Afternoon Savannah Drive
From approximately 3:30 PM to 6:30 PM inside Maasai Mara, our guide will explore open plains and woodland in search of lions, elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, zebras and other wildlife. The warm afternoon light may provide attractive landscapes and wildlife photographs. You will return to your lodge for dinner and overnight rest.
Morning Wildlife Search
At around 6:00 AM, you will begin a full-day game drive while temperatures are cooler and wildlife may be more active. Our guide will explore predator territories, grazing areas and riverine habitats while searching for lions, cheetahs, elephants, giraffes and large herbivore groups. The private vehicle allows a flexible and unhurried pace.
Picnic and Afternoon Exploration
At approximately 12:30 PM, you will enjoy a packed lunch at an authorised picnic site and relax before continuing the safari. From around 2:00 PM to 5:30 PM, our guide will explore another reserve area while searching for wildlife not yet encountered. Dinner and overnight accommodation follow at your premium lodge or camp.
Breakfast and Mara Departure
At approximately 6:30–7:00 AM, you will enjoy breakfast and prepare for lodge check-out. Wildlife may still be observed while leaving the Mara ecosystem, depending on the lodge location, reserve gate and route used. Our journey will then continue through Narok toward Lake Nakuru.
Rift Valley Road Transfer
The transfer from Maasai Mara to Lake Nakuru normally takes five and a half to seven hours depending on road conditions and stops. A lunch or refreshment break will be arranged along the route before continuing through the Great Rift Valley. Our guide will explain the changing scenery, agriculture and settlements encountered during the journey.
Premium Nakuru Stay
You will arrive in the Lake Nakuru area during the afternoon and check into your premium lodge. The remaining hours are reserved for relaxation, refreshments and preparation for the following morning’s safari. Dinner will be served before your overnight stay.
Morning Rhino Safari
At around 6:00 AM, you will enter Lake Nakuru National Park for a morning game drive through lakeshore, woodland and grassland habitats. Our guide will search for black or white rhinos, Rothschild’s giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, lions, leopards and waterbirds. Flamingo numbers change naturally and cannot be guaranteed.
Breakfast and Nairobi Return
At approximately 9:15 AM, you will return to your lodge for breakfast, freshen up and complete check-out. From around 10:30 AM, you will travel approximately 160 kilometres to Nairobi, normally taking three to four hours depending on traffic. Final drop-off will be at your hotel, residence, airport area or another confirmed location.
