December is part of the short rainy season in Tanzania. You can expect brief afternoon showers that turn the landscape a beautiful emerald green. The temperatures are generally warm during the day and pleasantly cool in the evenings, making it a comfortable time for a 4-day safari in December.

While the peak river crossing season is usually earlier, some herds stay in the north or cross back and forth depending on local rainfall. Your guide will use their expertise to find any active groups near the water. We use heavy duty 4x4 Land Cruisers that are built for the rugged tracks of the Serengeti. The vehicles have pop-up roofs for better wildlife viewing and are equipped with charging ports for your electronics. You will also find a fridge for cold drinks to keep you refreshed during the long drives.

Lions, leopards, and cheetahs are very active in December as they follow the food source moving south. You may also see hyenas and jackals scavenging near the herds. The lush grass provides excellent cover for these hunters, leading to exciting game drive moments.

Mosquitoes can be more active when there is moisture, so it is important to take precautions. Most lodges provide nets and repellent, but you should also bring your own high quality spray. Wearing long sleeves in the evening is a simple way to stay protected while enjoying the bush.

You should pack light, breathable clothing in neutral colors and a light rain jacket for the afternoon showers. A warm sweater is still needed for the cool morning game drives. Do not forget your camera, binoculars, and plenty of sun protection for the midday sun.

All meals including breakfast, lunch, and dinner are provided during the tour. You will enjoy fresh meals at your lodge or camp, and high quality picnic lunches are provided for the full days in the bush. We also accommodate specific dietary requirements if you inform us in advance.

Most luxury lodges and permanent camps provide Wi-Fi in the common lounge areas. However, the connection can be slow because of the remote location of the camps. There is generally no internet access while you are out on game drives in the park.
