Summit day begins around midnight when you leave Kibo Hut and start the most demanding section of your five-day Marangu adventure. Guided by headlamps, you will climb slowly through cold, steep and high-altitude terrain toward Gilman’s Point on the crater rim. The ascent requires patience and determination, and your guide will maintain a controlled pace while monitoring how you are responding to the altitude. As dawn approaches, the sky may begin to brighten over Mawenzi and the landscapes far below, creating one of the most memorable moments of the entire expedition. After reaching the crater rim, you will continue toward Uhuru Peak at 5,895 meters, the highest point in Africa. Standing at the summit turns your Tanzania visit into something far greater than a football journey: you may have arrived for AFCON, but now you will have experienced one of Africa’s greatest natural attractions and achieved the challenge of reaching the Roof of Africa. After a short celebration and photographs, you will begin the long descent back to Kibo and continue down toward Horombo Hut, completing an extremely demanding but unforgettable day.
