Festive Road Journey

Meet your private driver-guide at JKIA, Wilson Airport or a confirmed Nairobi hotel between approximately 6:30 and 7:00 a.m. Travel 250–280 km through the Great Rift Valley and Narok, normally taking 5–6½ hours plus viewpoint, refreshment and holiday-traffic stops. December landscapes may be green after rain, although conditions vary. Arrive at the premium Mara camp between 12:30 and 2:00 p.m. for check-in and lunch. First Holiday Game Drive

Depart around 3:30 p.m. for a 2½–3-hour exploration of grassland, acacia edges and riverine habitat. Your guide will search responsibly for wildlife while explaining the seasonal environment. No species, newborn animal or dramatic behaviour can be guaranteed. Return near 6:00–6:30 p.m. for dinner. If this date falls on Christmas Eve, the property’s confirmed festive meal or programme will follow its own schedule.

A Christmas Morning in the Wild

Begin around 6:15 a.m. with tea, coffee and a sunrise drive, or have breakfast before departure according to the chosen property’s Christmas programme. The early outing can last about 3 hours and explores nearby plains or river habitat. A private vehicle allows your party to return in time for any confirmed brunch, family call or lodge celebration.

Festive Midday at Camp

Return around 9:15 a.m. for breakfast or brunch and enjoy a relaxed late morning. Christmas lunch is commonly served around 1:00 p.m., but menus, drinks and entertainment vary by lodge. Guests should check the confirmed meal plan rather than assume a gala event.

Golden-Hour Safari

Leave again at approximately 3:30 p.m. for a 2½–3-hour game drive and return near sunset. Dinner, music or another seasonal activity may be offered by the property. Wildlife and lodge programmes remain subject to weather and operational decisions.

Boxing Day or Holiday Exploration

Depart at approximately 6:15 a.m. with a packed breakfast, or eat before leaving. This full day can explore more distant parts of the Maasai Mara than the split-drive Christmas schedule. Your guide will choose suitable routes using road conditions, tracks, habitat and current wildlife information. December rain may create attractive skies and green backgrounds but can also slow some tracks.

Picnic on the Plains

Enjoy lunch around 12:30–1:00 p.m. at an authorised picnic place during an 8–10-hour game drive. Look for naturally occurring elephants, giraffes, plains animals, predators and seasonal birds without guaranteed encounters. The Great Migration is a year-round ecosystem movement and should not be advertised as a certain Mara spectacle at Christmas.

Final Mara Holiday Evening

Return around 6:00–6:30 p.m. for refreshments, dinner and your third night at the premium camp. The guide will confirm the next morning’s departure for Lake Nakuru.

From the Mara to Nakuru

After breakfast around 6:30 a.m., check out by approximately 7:30 a.m. Travel 235–270 km to the Lake Nakuru area in about 5–6½ hours, depending on the gate, holiday traffic, rain and road conditions. A lunch or refreshment stop is arranged en route. Premium holiday dates are busy, so luggage, room type and property details should have been reconfirmed before departure. Arrival is expected during the mid-to-late afternoon.

Nakuru Afternoon Option

When your accommodation is inside Lake Nakuru National Park and sufficient time remains, depart around 3:30 p.m. for a 2–2½-hour drive. Guests staying outside the park will check in, relax and enter the following morning. The park’s woodland, grassland and lakeshore can support varied wildlife and birds, but flamingo abundance and rhino encounters are not guaranteed. Enjoy dinner and a relaxed festive-season evening at the selected property.

Final Festive Game Drive

Breakfast begins at approximately 6:00 a.m. before check-out and a 3–4-hour game drive from around 6:30–7:00 a.m. Explore accessible lakeshore, wooded tracks, open areas and viewpoints. Depending on natural conditions, you may observe waterbirds, buffaloes, giraffes, rhinos or smaller wildlife. Your guide will explain the park’s rhino conservation role while avoiding any promise of a specific sighting.

Christmas Journey Conclusion

Exit around 10:30–11:00 a.m. and have lunch in the Nakuru or Naivasha area around noon. The 165–180 km road journey to Nairobi takes approximately 3–4 hours before heavy holiday traffic. Expected arrival is between 4:00 and 6:00 p.m., with drop-off at JKIA, Wilson Airport or an agreed city address. Same-day international flights should depart after 8:00 p.m.; a Nairobi overnight offers greater protection against seasonal congestion.
