5 Days Kenya Luxury Photography Safari Through Maasai Mara and Lake Nakuru

Our professional driver-guide will collect you from your Nairobi hotel, private residence or the airport before beginning the approximately 260–280-kilometre journey to the Maasai Mara. The scenic transfer generally takes five to six hours, depending on traffic, road conditions, comfort stops and the location of your luxury lodge. Along the way, you will pass Great Rift Valley viewpoints, highland farms, rural towns and Maasai countryside, with photography stops arranged at safe and authorised locations. After arrival, you will check in, enjoy lunch and prepare your equipment before beginning an afternoon game drive. Possible photographic attractions include lions resting in golden grass, elephants crossing the plains, giraffes feeding among acacia trees, zebras, antelopes and warm sunset light across the Mara landscape.

After breakfast, you will leave with a picnic lunch for a seven-to-nine-hour photography safari covering approximately 60–100 kilometres, although the route will depend on animal movement, weather and road access. Our guide will search for areas used by lions, cheetahs, leopards and hyenas while remaining attentive to elephants, giraffes, wildebeest, zebras and birds. The private vehicle allows you to wait for natural behaviour, improved lighting or a cleaner photographic composition instead of moving immediately between sightings. You may photograph lion-pride interactions, cheetahs scanning the plains, elephant families protecting calves and vultures circling above the savannah before enjoying lunch at an authorised picnic location and continuing through the afternoon.

Your second complete Maasai Mara photography day will involve another flexible route of approximately 60–100 kilometres and seven to nine hours. Depending on wildlife activity, the guide may explore riverine habitats, open grasslands, seasonal water points or less frequently visited areas of the reserve. Attractions may include hippos and crocodiles near waterways, elephants gathering around water, wildebeest and zebras moving across the plains, jackals, mongooses and colourful birds. During migration periods, large seasonal herds may be present, although exact movements depend on rainfall and grazing conditions. A picnic lunch will be served inside the reserve before the afternoon session continues in changing light.

After breakfast, you will check out and travel approximately 230–250 kilometres from the Maasai Mara to the Lake Nakuru area, a journey normally requiring four and a half to six hours depending on road conditions and stops. The transfer passes rural settlements, highland agriculture and changing Great Rift Valley scenery, creating opportunities for authorised landscape photographs. If your confirmed accommodation is inside Lake Nakuru National Park and the arrival time, park-entry validity and operating conditions allow, you will enjoy an afternoon photography game drive featuring possible rhinos, Rothschild’s giraffes, buffaloes, baboons and lakeshore birds. Guests staying outside the park will check in, relax and prepare for the following morning’s photographic safari.

Your final day begins with an early Lake Nakuru game drive covering approximately 25–50 kilometres over three to four hours. The cooler morning conditions may provide strong opportunities to photograph white or black rhinos, Rothschild’s giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, baboons and predators, together with pelicans, cormorants, flamingos and other birds when seasonal and water conditions are favourable. After completing the drive, you will begin the approximately 155–165-kilometre journey to Nairobi, normally taking two and a half to three and a half hours. A meal or refreshment stop will be arranged before drop-off at your hotel, residence or airport.
