Book a 5-Day Kenya Luxury Road Safari through Maasai Mara and Lake Nakuru with private transport, premium lodges, big cats, rhinos and scenic drives.
Discover Kenya’s landscapes, wildlife and Great Rift Valley scenery on this 5-Day Kenya Luxury Road Safari through Maasai Mara and Lake Nakuru. The private drive-in and drive-out journey begins in Nairobi and travels through highland farms, rural towns and Maasai country before reaching the famous Mara plains. You will enjoy an introductory afternoon game drive followed by two complete days of wildlife exploration, creating opportunities to see lions, cheetahs, elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, wildebeest and zebras. The road safari then continues through the Rift Valley to Lake Nakuru National Park for rhinos, Rothschild’s giraffes, baboons and colourful birdlife. Selected luxury lodges or tented camps provide elegant rooms, excellent meals and premium hospitality throughout the journey.
Our professional driver-guide will collect you from your Nairobi hotel, residence or the airport before beginning the approximately 260–280-kilometre road journey to the Maasai Mara. The drive generally takes five to six hours, depending on traffic, road conditions, weather, comfort stops and the location of your luxury lodge. Along the route, you will pass Great Rift Valley viewpoints, productive highland farms, roadside towns and increasingly open Maasai landscapes. Suitable washroom, refreshment and photography stops will be arranged before arrival at your luxury lodge or tented camp. After check-in and lunch, you will begin an afternoon game drive featuring possible lions, elephants, giraffes, zebras, buffaloes and antelopes against the warm colours of the Mara savannah.
After breakfast, you will leave with a picnic lunch and explore approximately 60–100 kilometres of the Maasai Mara over seven to nine hours. The exact route will depend on wildlife movements, recent sightings and reserve-road conditions. Attractions may include lion prides resting in the grass, cheetahs using raised ground to scan for prey, elephant families crossing open plains and large herds of wildebeest and zebras. You may also visit riverine or woodland areas for hippos, birds and smaller predators. Lunch will be enjoyed at an authorised picnic location before the afternoon wildlife experience continues.
Your third day provides another seven-to-nine-hour game drive covering approximately 60–100 kilometres through areas not fully explored the previous day. The guide may concentrate on river habitats, quieter plains, seasonal water sources or locations where predators have recently been active. Possible attractions include hippos, crocodiles, elephants, giraffes, hyenas, jackals and large grazing herds. During migration periods, seasonal wildebeest and zebra concentrations may be present, although exact movements depend on rainfall and grazing conditions. A picnic lunch will be served inside the reserve before you continue through the afternoon.
After breakfast, you will check out and travel approximately 230–250 kilometres toward Lake Nakuru, a journey normally taking four and a half to six hours. The road passes rural communities, agricultural highlands, escarpment scenery and changing Great Rift Valley landscapes. If your confirmed accommodation is inside Lake Nakuru National Park and the arrival time and entry arrangements allow, you will enjoy an afternoon game drive in search of rhinos, Rothschild’s giraffes, buffaloes, baboons and lake birds. Guests staying outside the park will check in, enjoy lunch or refreshments and relax before the morning safari.
Your final morning includes a three-to-four-hour game drive covering approximately 25–50 kilometres inside Lake Nakuru National Park. Attractions may include white and black rhinos, Rothschild’s giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, baboons and predators, while flamingos, pelicans and other waterbirds may be present depending on lake conditions and season. After the game drive, you will begin the approximately 155–165-kilometre road journey to Nairobi, normally taking two and a half to three and a half hours. A meal, refreshment and comfort stop will be arranged before drop-off at your hotel, residence or airport.
