Enjoy a 5-Day Luxury Family Wildlife Safari to Maasai Mara and Lake Nakuru with private drives, child-friendly guiding, big cats and rhinos.
Create meaningful family memories on this 5-Day Luxury Family Wildlife Safari to Maasai Mara and Lake Nakuru. Designed for parents, children and multigenerational families, the private itinerary includes flexible road stops, child-friendly guiding and comfortable luxury accommodation. Two full days in the Maasai Mara allow children to discover lions, elephants, giraffes, cheetahs, zebras and other animals through engaging explanations about behaviour and conservation. Lake Nakuru then adds rhinos, Rothschild’s giraffes, baboons, buffaloes and colourful birds. A private vehicle gives your family greater control over activity times and rest breaks, while selected lodges provide family rooms, quality meals and welcoming environments.
Our friendly driver-guide will collect your family from Nairobi, assist with luggage and begin the approximately 260–280-kilometre journey to the Maasai Mara. The transfer normally takes five to six hours, with suitable washroom, meal and stretching stops included for younger and older family members. The route passes Great Rift Valley views, highland farms, towns and Maasai countryside. After arrival, you will check in, enjoy lunch and rest before an afternoon drive featuring possible elephants, giraffes, zebras, antelopes and lions. The guide will introduce wildlife through clear explanations and simple identification activities suitable for children.
After breakfast, the family will leave with a picnic lunch for a flexible seven-to-eight-hour game drive covering approximately 50–90 kilometres. Attractions may include lion prides, elephant families, cheetahs, giraffes and large herds, while the guide explains food chains, animal communication and family behaviour. The private vehicle allows reasonable breaks, additional snack stops and an earlier return if younger guests become tired. Lunch will be enjoyed at an authorised location before the afternoon exploration continues.
Your third day includes another approximately 50–90-kilometre game-drive route over seven to eight hours, allowing the family to explore areas not covered previously. Possible attractions include hippos and crocodiles near river habitats, wildebeest and zebras on open plains, elephants near water and predators resting in shaded areas. Children may keep a wildlife notebook, identify tracks or participate in a simple animal checklist. A picnic lunch and appropriate comfort stops will be included before returning to the luxury lodge.
After breakfast, your family will check out and travel approximately 230–250 kilometres to the Lake Nakuru area over four and a half to six hours. The route introduces highland farms, changing Rift Valley landscapes and local communities, with washroom and refreshment stops arranged. If your accommodation is inside the park and timing and entry conditions permit, the family will enjoy an afternoon game drive for rhinos, giraffes, buffaloes and birds. Families staying outside the park will check in, relax and prepare for the morning experience.
Your family will begin the day with a three-to-four-hour Lake Nakuru game drive covering approximately 25–45 kilometres. Children may identify rhinos, Rothschild’s giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, baboons and different bird species while learning how the lake environment differs from the Maasai Mara grasslands. After the drive, you will travel approximately 155–165 kilometres to Nairobi over two and a half to three and a half hours, with a meal and comfort stop before final drop-off.
