5 Days Midrange Mikumi Ruaha Safari from Dar Es Salaam

5:30 AM–8:30 AM: Direct Collection from Dar es Salaam

Your safari will begin with collection from an agreed Dar es Salaam hotel, residence or accessible meeting point. Airport or ferry-terminal pickup may be possible when arrival time matches the early road departure, but spending the previous night in Dar es Salaam is normally more practical. Our guide will welcome you, help load your luggage and provide a full briefing before leaving the city. Starting early reduces some traffic delays and protects the afternoon for wildlife viewing.

8:30 AM–12:30 PM: Road Journey toward Mikumi

You will travel through settlements, farms and increasingly open countryside toward Mikumi. A refreshment and washroom stop will be provided during the journey. Our guide will explain the itinerary, Southern Circuit landscapes and what to expect from the first game drive. You should keep your camera, personal medication, water and other important items within easy reach rather than packing them deep inside your luggage.

12:30 PM–3:00 PM: Midrange Accommodation and Lunch

Upon arrival, you will check in at a midrange lodge or established safari camp near Mikumi. You will enjoy lunch and have time to shower, change clothes and prepare binoculars or camera equipment. Our guide will explain the planned afternoon route and park regulations. Your room will provide a comfortable base after the road journey and remain available until the following morning.

3:00 PM–6:00 PM: First Mikumi Wildlife Drive

You will enter Mikumi and explore the Mkata Floodplain during the late afternoon. You may see elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, wildebeest and antelopes across the open landscape. Our guide will search water points and shaded areas for lions while identifying birds and smaller wildlife. Mikumi’s mountain background and warm evening light can create attractive photographs. After the drive, you will return to the lodge for dinner.

6:00 AM–8:30 AM: Early Morning Mikumi Safari

After breakfast, you will return to Mikumi while animals may still be active in the cooler conditions. Our guide will select a route that differs from the previous afternoon and search for lions, elephants, buffaloes and other wildlife. Morning light may provide clear photography opportunities, particularly across the open plains.

8:30 AM–11:00 AM: Final Mikumi Wildlife Circuit

Your game drive will continue through grassland, woodland edges and water areas. You may encounter hippos, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest and numerous birds while searching for species missed during the first drive. The activity will end around late morning so that the long transfer to Ruaha can begin without unnecessary delay.

11:00 AM–2:00 PM: Lunch and Southern Highlands Journey

After leaving Mikumi, you will stop for lunch and begin travelling toward Iringa. The road climbs through the Southern Highlands and offers changing scenery, settlements and mountain landscapes. Our guide will provide practical breaks and information about the region. The journey is substantial, so travellers should prepare for several hours in the vehicle.

2:00 PM–7:00 PM: Iringa to Ruaha Accommodation

You will continue through or near Iringa and travel toward the Ruaha area. Road conditions and traffic will determine the exact arrival time. Rather than guaranteeing an evening game drive that may not be possible, you will normally proceed to your midrange lodge or camp. After check-in, you will enjoy dinner and prepare for the following day’s full safari.

6:30 AM–10:00 AM: Enter Ruaha’s Baobab Country

After breakfast, you will enter Ruaha with a packed lunch. The first section of the drive will explore baobab woodland, open areas and dry riverbeds. You may see elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, greater kudu, sable antelopes and zebras. Our guide will examine tracks and listen for alarm calls while searching for lions, leopards and African wild dogs.

10:00 AM–12:00 PM: Elephant and Predator Habitats

Your safari will continue through wildlife corridors connecting water, feeding areas and shade. Elephants may be encountered in family groups, while predators can appear near concentrations of prey. The selected activity will begin early and remain carefully timed because of the long road distance to Dar es Salaam.

You will begin the journey through the Southern Highlands and descend toward lower elevations. Kitonga’s scenery and changing vegetation provide an engaging start to the return trip.
