This 5-day overland Kenya safari from Nairobi connects Maasai Mara National Reserve, Lake Nakuru National Park and Amboseli National Park in one exciting road adventure. You will travel through the Great Rift Valley, explore the predator-rich plains of Maasai Mara, search for rhinos and Rothschild’s giraffes in Lake Nakuru and finish with Amboseli’s famous elephant herds beneath Mount Kilimanjaro. Our overland Kenya safari begins when our guide collects you from your Nairobi hotel, airport or agreed meeting point. You will descend into the Great Rift Valley and stop briefly at a scenic viewpoint before continuing through Narok and the surrounding countryside. After arriving at your midrange lodge or tented camp, you will enjoy lunch and prepare for an afternoon game drive. You may see elephants, giraffes, zebras, antelopes and predators as your road safari introduces you to the open Mara plains.

After breakfast, you will leave with a packed lunch for a full day inside Maasai Mara. Our guide will follow productive tracks while searching for lions, cheetahs, elephants, buffaloes, wildebeests, giraffes and hippos. Your overland Kenya safari gives you enough time to observe wildlife behaviour rather than rushing between sightings. Lunch will be served at an approved picnic area before the afternoon exploration continues.

Guests staying outside the park will settle into their midrange accommodation and prepare for the following morning.

Your morning begins with a game drive inside Lake Nakuru National Park. Our guide will search for black and white rhinos, Rothschild’s giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, baboons and waterbirds. After the wildlife experience, our overland Kenya safari continues south through the Nairobi bypass and Emali towards Amboseli. Suitable comfort stops will be provided before reaching your midrange lodge or camp in the evening.

You will begin the final day with a morning game drive through Amboseli. Our guide will search for elephant families, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, lions and birds around the open plains and seasonal swamps. Mount Kilimanjaro may appear behind the wildlife when weather conditions are clear. After breakfast or an early lunch, your overland Kenya safari ends with a comfortable drive back to Nairobi.

1. Does the safari begin and end in Nairobi?
Yes. The normal package includes Nairobi pickup and final drop-off.
2. Is the entire safari completed by road?
Yes. All transfers between the three parks are completed in a safari vehicle.
3. Which vehicle is normally used?
A customised safari van or 4x4 Land Cruiser with a pop-up viewing roof may be used.
4. Is the Lake Nakuru to Amboseli transfer long?
Yes. It is the longest transfer day and requires approximately seven to eight hours.
5. Are comfort stops provided?
Yes. Our guide will make appropriate stops for refreshments, washrooms and stretching.
6. Can the safari be operated privately?
Yes. A private safari can be arranged for couples, families, friends or small groups.
7. What type of accommodation is included?
The package uses midrange lodges or tented camps with private rooms, meals and essential facilities.
8. Can the itinerary include Lake Naivasha?
Yes. An additional night may be added to include Lake Naivasha and create a slower route.
9. Is Mount Kilimanjaro always visible?
No. Mountain visibility depends on cloud cover and weather conditions.
