Arrival Day: Arrival (Kilimanjaro Airport) to Arusha

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, your driver will greet you and transfer you to your hotel in Arusha. The drive takes about one hour and passes through lush green landscapes. This evening, you will enjoy a briefing with your guide to prepare for your 5-day cultural safari. Arusha is a melting pot of Tanzanian cultures, and you might hear several local languages being spoken around the hotel. It is a perfect time to rest and sample your first traditional Tanzanian meal, such as grilled meat known as Nyama Choma.

Day 1: Arusha to Tarangire National Park

Your adventure starts with a drive to Tarangire National Park, which is roughly 120 kilometers away and takes about 2.5 hours. Tarangire is famous for its large elephant herds and ancient baobab trees that hold deep spiritual meaning for local tribes. You will spend the full day exploring the park. A positive unexpected moment might be spotting a group of Maasai herders in their vibrant red shukas grazing cattle just outside the park boundaries. This sight highlights the close relationship between the local people and the wildlife. You will head to your lodge in the late afternoon for dinner.

Day 5: Serengeti to Ngorongoro Crater to Arusha

You will leave early for the Ngorongoro Crater, which is a 3 hour drive. You will descend into the caldera for a half day tour. The crater is a unique place where Maasai pastoralists are allowed to live alongside wild animals. Seeing a Maasai warrior calmly walking with his goats while a pride of lions sleeps nearby is a sight you will never forget. After a picnic lunch, you will drive 190 kilometers back to Arusha. You will arrive in the late evening, concluding your 5-day cultural safari with a final view of the stunning crater highlands.
