RELATED FAQS ABOUT 5 Days Serengeti Migration Safari with Birdwatching

What is the best time for a 5-day birdwatching safari in Serengeti Migration?

The best time is from November to April when migratory birds from Europe and North Africa are present. However, resident birds and the Great Migration are visible throughout the dry season from July to October as well.

Can I see both the Great Migration and rare birds on this tour?

Yes, this 5-day birdwatching safari is designed to cover the core areas of the migration while visiting birding hotspots. You will spend time in different habitats like swamps, savannahs, and forests to maximize sightings of both mammals and birds.

How many bird species can I expect to see during the trip?

An experienced birder can often spot between 150 and 250 different species during a 5-day birdwatching safari in Serengeti Migration. This depends on the season and the specific route taken through the parks.

What birding equipment should I bring for the safari?

A good pair of binoculars with 8x42 or 10x42 magnification is essential for spotting distant birds. You should also bring a Tanzanian bird field guide and a camera with a long lens for photography.

Is a 5-day Serengeti Migration birdwatching safari suitable for beginners?

This tour is perfect for both expert birders and beginners because the guides are very patient. They will explain the characteristics of each bird and help you learn how to identify them in the wild.

Will we spend all day looking at birds or see other animals too?

The tour is a balanced wildlife experience where you will see the Big Five and the migration herds. Birding usually happens alongside general game viewing as many birds are found near the larger mammals.

Are the safari vehicles equipped for bird photography?

Yes, the 4x4 Land Cruisers have pop-up roofs that provide a 360-degree view for photographers. This allows you to stabilize your camera on the roof frame to get clear shots of birds in the trees or on the ground.

Does this 5-day birding package include a specialist guide?

We provide guides who are specifically trained in ornithology as well as general wildlife behavior. They know the calls and habitats of the local birds to ensure you have a successful trip.

Can we stop the vehicle frequently to look at small birds?

Since this is a dedicated 5-day birdwatching safari, your guide will be happy to stop whenever you spot something interesting. The pace is often slower than a standard safari to allow for careful observation.

What kind of waterbirds will I see at the Ngorongoro Crater?

You can expect to see Lesser Flamingos, African Spoonbills, Grey Herons, and various species of ducks. The fresh water near the hippo pool also attracts Pied Kingfishers and Sacred Ibis.
