Arrival Day: Arrival (Kilimanjaro Airport) to Arusha
Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, your group will be met by a driver and transferred to your lodge in Arusha. This day is used for an introductory orientation where the lead guide explains the safety rules and educational goals of the trip. You will prepare your field notebooks and binoculars for the coming days. Arusha sits at the base of Mount Meru, providing a cool environment for your first night. It is a good time to rest before the academic field work begins.
Day 1: Arusha to Tarangire (Full Day Tour)
The journey to Tarangire National Park takes about 2 to 3 hours over a distance of 120 kilometers. This park serves as a living laboratory for the students. You will focus on elephant social structures and the unique botany of the giant baobab trees. Students can observe how elephant families communicate and manage water resources. A positive unexpected moment occurs when you see a large python hiding in a tree, which is a rare sight that teaches students about camouflage. You will return to your accommodation for an evening discussion on woodland ecology.
Day 2: Tarangire to Serengeti Central (Half-Day Game Drive)
After breakfast, you will drive 250 kilometers toward the Central Serengeti, which takes about 6 hours. The route passes through the Great Rift Valley, allowing for a study of the local geography. Once in the Seronera Valley, the focus shifts to feline predation and territorial behavior. You will spend the afternoon tracking lions and leopards to understand their roles as apex predators. A strange but fascinating moment might be finding a leopard with its kill high in an acacia tree, showing the physical strength of these cats.

Day 3: Central Serengeti to Northern Serengeti (Full Day Tour)
The drive north covers 140 kilometers and takes approximately 5 hours. This part of the 5-day students safari in Serengeti Migration focuses on the migration corridors and the seasonal movements of the herds. You will travel through the hilly northern woodlands to reach the Mara River area. The academic focus is on the symbiotic relationship between wildebeests and zebras. A positive experience for the group is hearing the deep, rhythmic vocalizations of thousands of animals, which creates a massive acoustic landscape that students will never forget.
Day 4: Northern Serengeti (Full Day Tour) to Central Serengeti
The morning is spent in the north studying scavenger roles and nutrient recycling in the savannah. After a picnic lunch, you will begin the game drive back to the Central Serengeti, which takes about 5 hours. You will stop to observe vultures and hyenas to see how they interact at carcass sites. An unexpected moment might be watching a group of vultures clean a carcass in minutes, highlighting the efficiency of the natural cleaning crew. This return trip allows for a comparison of different vegetation zones within the park.

Day 5: Serengeti to Ngorongoro crater (half day tour) to Arusha
You will leave early for the Ngorongoro Crater, a journey of 3 hours. You will descend into the caldera for a 4 hour study of biological isolation. Because the crater walls are high, many animals have stayed here for generations, creating a unique ecosystem. You will gather data on the resident black rhino and the local bird life. A highlight of the day is seeing lions sleeping near the vehicle tires for shade, which shows how wildlife adapts to human presence. Afterward, you will drive 190 kilometers back to Arusha for your departure.
