6 Days Afcon 2027 Tanzania Migration Safari: Serengeti

Your 6-day Tanzania migration safari begins in Arusha, where our professional safari guide will meet you early in the morning for a short briefing before driving toward Tarangire National Park. After entering the park, you will begin a full-day game drive through a beautiful landscape of giant baobab trees, open savannah, river valleys and seasonal wetlands. July falls within Tanzania’s dry season, making Tarangire especially rewarding because many animals move closer to permanent water sources such as the Tarangire River. You will have excellent opportunities to see large elephant families, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, impalas, warthogs and several antelope species, while predators such as lions, leopards and spotted hyenas may also be encountered. Our guide will explore productive wildlife areas throughout the day, allowing enough time for photography and relaxed viewing. A picnic lunch will be enjoyed inside the park before continuing with the afternoon game drive, making this a strong first day before heading toward the Serengeti ecosystem.

After breakfast, you will depart the Tarangire area and begin the scenic journey toward Serengeti National Park. The drive takes you through northern Tanzania’s changing landscapes, passing local communities, farmland and the Ngorongoro highlands before continuing toward the vast Serengeti plains. As you enter Serengeti National Park, the journey gradually changes from a road transfer into a wildlife experience as animals begin appearing across the grasslands. You will continue toward the Seronera area of Central Serengeti, which is well known for its permanent water sources and strong concentration of resident wildlife. During the half-day game drive, our guide will explore the Seronera River Valley and surrounding plains in search of lions, leopards, cheetahs, elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest and gazelles. This region is also an important connecting point for your July migration safari because it positions you perfectly for the journey toward Northern Serengeti the following day.

After an early breakfast, you will begin one of the most exciting days of the safari as you travel from Central Serengeti toward Northern Serengeti while enjoying a full-day game drive along the way. Instead of treating the journey simply as a transfer, our guide will carefully follow wildlife activity and migration movements as you cross open plains, rocky kopjes, woodland and river valleys toward Kogatende. During July, wildebeest and zebra herds can be moving northward through different parts of the Serengeti ecosystem, and this route gives you the opportunity to observe the changing migration pattern as you approach the northern region. You may encounter long columns of wildebeest, large zebra herds and predators such as lions, cheetahs, leopards and spotted hyenas that often follow the migration. After a picnic lunch inside the park, you will continue toward the Kogatende and Mara River region, where the landscape becomes increasingly important for July migration viewing. The afternoon will be focused on exploring the northern plains and searching for the largest concentrations of migrating herds.

Today begins with an early morning exploration of Northern Serengeti, giving you valuable time to search for large concentrations of migrating wildebeest and zebras around Kogatende and the wider Mara River region. Our guide will follow the latest wildlife movements and select productive game-viewing areas depending on where the herds are located that day. You may witness thousands of wildebeest spreading across the plains, gathering close to river systems or moving in long columns toward fresh grazing areas. The region is also excellent for predator viewing, with lions, leopards, cheetahs and spotted hyenas taking advantage of the concentration of prey. Crocodiles and hippos may be seen around the Mara River, while elephants, giraffes, buffaloes and antelopes are also common throughout the northern ecosystem. After spending the morning and early afternoon exploring Northern Serengeti, you will begin the game-drive journey south toward Central Serengeti. Wildlife viewing continues throughout the return route, making this a complete safari day rather than a simple transfer.

Your fifth day begins with an early morning game drive in Central Serengeti, giving you another opportunity to explore the Seronera region while predators and other wildlife are especially active during the cooler hours of the morning. You may encounter lions returning from nighttime activity, cheetahs scanning the open plains, leopards resting in trees or large groups of elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras and antelopes moving through the grasslands. Our guide will spend the morning exploring productive areas before gradually beginning the journey toward the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Along the way, you will continue enjoying wildlife and beautiful Serengeti landscapes before leaving the national park and climbing toward the Ngorongoro highlands. This shorter wildlife day provides a more relaxed transition after the long migration-focused days in Northern Serengeti and places you close to the crater for an early start the following morning.

Your final safari day begins early as you drive toward the Ngorongoro Crater rim and descend approximately 600 meters to the crater floor for a full-day wildlife experience in one of Tanzania’s most famous natural attractions. The crater contains grasslands, woodland, swamps, freshwater pools and open plains that support an impressive concentration of wildlife throughout the year. You will explore different sections of the crater while searching for lions, buffaloes, wildebeest, zebras, elephants, hippos, spotted hyenas, jackals and many species of birds. With good luck, you may also have an opportunity to see the endangered black rhino from a respectful distance. Your guide will explore areas such as the open plains, Lerai Forest and wetland sections, giving you a broad experience of the crater ecosystem. A picnic lunch will be enjoyed at one of the designated sites before continuing with the afternoon game drive. Later, you will ascend the crater wall and begin the scenic journey through Karatu and the Great Rift Valley toward Arusha, where the safari ends in the evening.
