Join a 6-Day Kenya Luxury Birdwatching Expedition through Maasai Mara, Nakuru and Amboseli with raptors, waterbirds, private drives and premium lodging.
Explore three contrasting Kenyan bird habitats on this 6-Day Kenya Luxury Birdwatching Expedition through Maasai Mara, Nakuru and Amboseli. The Maasai Mara’s grasslands, acacia woodland and river environments support secretary birds, vultures, eagles, rollers, bustards and numerous smaller species. Lake Nakuru adds lakeshore and woodland birding for pelicans, flamingos, cormorants, herons, fish eagles and terrestrial birds. Amboseli completes the journey with wetlands, open plains and acacia habitats that attract waterbirds, raptors, ostriches and savannah species alongside large elephant herds. A private guide gives birdwatching proper priority, while luxury accommodation provides comfort and quiet spaces for reviewing photographs and updating checklists.
You will leave Nairobi with our professional guide and travel approximately 260–280 kilometres to the Maasai Mara over five to six hours. During the journey through Great Rift Valley scenery, highland farms and open countryside, you may begin observing roadside raptors, storks and agricultural birds. After checking in and enjoying lunch, you will begin an afternoon birding drive through open grasslands and acacia habitats. Possible attractions include secretary birds, rollers, bustards, vultures, eagles and hornbills, while elephants, giraffes and predators may also appear.
After breakfast, you will explore approximately 50–90 kilometres over seven to nine hours. The guide will listen for calls, scan exposed branches and stop for both common and less frequently observed birds. Possible species include martial and tawny eagles, secretary birds, ground hornbills, rollers, vultures, larks and weavers. River habitats may add kingfishers, herons and bee-eaters, while lions, elephants, giraffes and wildebeest may be encountered during the same drive. A picnic lunch will be enjoyed before afternoon birding continues.
After breakfast, you will travel approximately 230–250 kilometres to the Lake Nakuru region over four and a half to six hours. Roadside birding opportunities may include storks, raptors, weavers and species associated with farms and settlements. After checking in at your luxury accommodation, you may enjoy relaxed birdwatching around lodge gardens and surrounding vegetation, depending on arrival time and property rules.
Your morning begins with a three-to-four-hour Lake Nakuru birding drive covering approximately 25–50 kilometres. Depending on lake conditions and season, attractions may include flamingos, pelicans, cormorants, herons, fish eagles and woodland birds, together with rhinos, giraffes and buffaloes. After an early lunch, you will travel approximately 350–400 kilometres to Amboseli over seven to eight hours. The transfer provides changing roadside habitats before arrival at your luxury lodge for dinner.
After breakfast, you will explore approximately 45–85 kilometres of Amboseli over seven to nine hours. The park’s wetlands, open plains and acacia areas may produce egrets, herons, pelicans, spoonbills, raptors, ostriches, lapwings and numerous smaller savannah birds. Elephant families, giraffes, zebras, buffaloes and possible predators will add to the natural-history experience. Mount Kilimanjaro may be visible when conditions are clear. A picnic lunch or lodge break will be arranged before afternoon birding continues.
After breakfast, you will travel approximately 215–240 kilometres to Nairobi over four to five hours. The journey may provide final roadside sightings of raptors, storks, weavers and open-country species. A meal and comfort stop will be arranged before final drop-off.
