Join a 6-Day Kenya Luxury Birdwatching Safari from Samburu to Maasai Mara with private birding drives, lake birds, raptors and premium lodging.
Explore three contrasting Kenyan bird habitats on this 6-Day Kenya Luxury Birdwatching Safari from Samburu to Maasai Mara. Samburu’s dry scrubland, acacia woodland and riverine vegetation support hornbills, rollers, bee-eaters, raptors, sandgrouse and colourful starlings. Lake Nakuru introduces lakeshore, woodland and grassland birding for pelicans, cormorants, flamingos, herons, fish eagles and many terrestrial species. The Maasai Mara completes the journey with secretary birds, vultures, bustards, eagles and riverine birds alongside lions, elephants, rhinos, giraffes and other large mammals. Private guiding allows birdwatching to receive proper attention, while selected luxury accommodation provides comfortable rooms and peaceful spaces for checklist updates.
You will leave Nairobi with our professional guide and travel approximately 310–325 kilometres to Samburu over five and a half to six and a half hours. As the scenery changes from highlands to semi-arid northern landscapes, you may begin observing roadside raptors, storks and dry-country species. After checking in and enjoying lunch, you will begin an afternoon birding drive featuring possible hornbills, rollers, starlings, bee-eaters, sandgrouse and raptors. Elephants, giraffes, zebras and predators may also appear during the activity.
After breakfast, you will explore approximately 40–70 kilometres over seven to nine hours through riverine vegetation, open scrub and acacia woodland. Possible attractions include kingfishers, hornbills, weavers, starlings, raptors, Somali ostriches and ground-dwelling birds. The guide will listen for calls and stop for smaller species rather than concentrating only on large mammals. Elephant families, Grevy’s zebras and reticulated giraffes may also be encountered. Lunch will be served as a picnic or at the lodge according to the confirmed programme.
After breakfast and check-out, you will travel approximately 260–300 kilometres to Lake Nakuru over five to six and a half hours. The route may introduce roadside raptors, storks, weavers and agricultural species as the habitat changes into greener highlands. After arrival at your luxury lodge, you may enjoy relaxed birdwatching around the property grounds, where sunbirds, starlings and other local species may be present.
Your day begins with a three-to-four-hour birding drive covering approximately 25–50 kilometres inside Lake Nakuru National Park. Depending on water levels and season, attractions may include flamingos, pelicans, cormorants, herons, fish eagles and woodland birds, together with rhinos, giraffes, buffaloes and baboons. After an early lunch, you will travel approximately 230–260 kilometres to the Maasai Mara over five to six hours before checking in at your luxury accommodation.
After breakfast, you will cover approximately 50–90 kilometres over seven to nine hours through open grassland, woodland and riverine habitats. Possible attractions include secretary birds, martial and tawny eagles, vultures, rollers, bustards, hornbills, larks and weavers. Lions, elephants, giraffes and other mammals may also appear. A picnic lunch will be enjoyed inside the reserve before afternoon birding continues.
After breakfast, you will travel approximately 260–280 kilometres to Nairobi over five to six hours. The route provides final opportunities to observe roadside raptors, storks, weavers and farmland birds as the scenery changes toward the capital. A meal and comfort stop will be arranged before drop-off.
