The trail starts at an elevation of 6,398 ft. and gradually ascends through the montane forest, offering breath taking views of the surrounding landscape. Along the way, you will pass by the Maasai Village, where you can observe the daily lives of the local people and learn about their rich culture. As you continue your journey, you will reach the 1st Caves Camp at an elevation of 9,300 ft. This campsite is named after the two large caves located nearby, which offer a unique and fascinating backdrop for your overnight stay. Distance: 6 km Hiking time: 3-4 hours Habitat: Moorlands After a refreshing night's sleep, you will wake up to the sound of birds chirping and the gentle rustling of the trees. You will have a hot breakfast to fuel you for the day's ascent. Today's hike will take you to the Kikelewa Cave, which is the highest camp on the Rongai Trail. The trail today will take you through the moorlands, a unique habitat that is characterized by its alpine tundra vegetation. You will be surrounded by rolling hills and breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. Be prepared for a challenging hike as the elevation gain is significant, but the stunning views and sense of accomplishment will make it all worth it. At the Kikelewa Cave camp, you will once again be treated to a beautiful campsite, complete with tents set up by the porters. You can relax and enjoy a hot meal before calling it a day.

    After a restful night at Mawenzi Tarn Camp, you'll wake up early to begin your ascent to Kibo Hut. The trail is relatively flat as you leave the moorlands behind and enter the alpine desert. As you approach Kibo Hut, you'll be struck by the incredible views of the surrounding peaks, including the iconic Uhuru Peak. The hut itself is basic but comfortable, with dormitory-style sleeping quarters and shared bathroom facilities. Before dinner, your guide will give you a detailed briefing on how to prepare for summit night. It's important to rest and get plenty of sleep, as the summit attempt will begin early in the morning. After a quick breakfast of tea and biscuits, you'll begin your ascent up the rocky scree towards Hans Meyer Cave, your first stop at an elevation of 5150 ft. After a short rest at the summit, it's time to start your descent back down to Barafu Camp. Once you reach Barafu, you'll have a well-deserved hot lunch in the sun before continuing your descent down to Kibo Hut. The trail from Barafu to Kibo is relatively flat, making it a much easier walk than the ascent. As you make your way down to Kibo Hut, you'll be able to enjoy the peaceful surroundings of the rainforest, with its lush vegetation and exotic wildlife. After a restful night at Kibo Hut, you'll begin your final descent down to Horombo Hut, where you'll spend the night before finishing your journey back to Marangu Gate.

    After a well-deserved breakfast, you'll begin your descent back down the mountain. The trail from Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate is relatively flat, making it a much easier walk than the ascent. As you make your way down, you'll pass through different ecosystems, from the barren alpine desert to the lush forests below. You'll also encounter several streams and waterfalls along the way. Finally, you'll arrive at Marangu Gate, where you'll receive your certificate of completion and say goodbye to your guides and porters. From here, you'll drive back to Moshi where you can celebrate your incredible achievement with a well-deserved shower and a meal. Congratulations on reaching the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro!
