This is the most challenging and rewarding day of your Kilimanjaro adventure. You will wake around midnight, have a light meal and prepare for the summit attempt before beginning the slow climb from Barafu Camp through darkness and freezing high-altitude conditions. Guided by headlamps, you will follow a steady zigzag trail toward Stella Point on the crater rim, taking regular short breaks while maintaining a slow pace to conserve energy and manage the effects of altitude. As dawn approaches, the sky begins to brighten over Mawenzi and the surrounding landscape, creating one of the most memorable moments of the entire climb. After reaching Stella Point, you will continue along the crater rim toward Uhuru Peak at 5,895 meters, the highest point in Africa. Reaching the summit is an extraordinary achievement and gives you time for photographs, celebration and breathtaking views before beginning the long descent. You will first return to Barafu Camp for rest and food, then continue down through changing vegetation zones toward Mweka Camp. By the time you arrive, you will have completed the most demanding day of the expedition and can enjoy a well-earned meal and rest after standing on the Roof of Africa.
