We traverse the southwest side of Kilimanjaro, passing beneath the majestic Lava Tower and the final section of the Western Breach. Following a satisfying hot lunch at the base of the Lava Tower (4,600m), we descend to the magnificent Great Barranco valley (3,900m). Walking time: 5-7 hours.

    Today, we face a challenging hike up the eastern wall, leading us just below the Heim Glacier. Along the way, we are rewarded with stunning views of Kilimanjaro. Next, we conquer the steep Great Barranco Wall, which separates us from the southeastern slopes of Kibo. Descending into the Karanga Valley, we pause for a short break and a hot lunch. Afterward, we tackle a steep ascent out of Karanga, followed by an easy path over compacted scree, providing vast vistas of this arid and deserted landscape until we reach Barafu Camp. Walking time: 7-9 hours.
