Your summit challenge begins around midnight as you leave Kibo Hut and start climbing through darkness and cold high-altitude conditions toward the crater rim. Guided by headlamps, you will move slowly along a steep zigzag trail while your mountain team maintains a controlled pace and monitors how you are coping with altitude. The ascent toward Gilman’s Point requires patience and determination, but reaching the crater rim is a major milestone. As dawn approaches, spectacular light may begin spreading across Mawenzi and the landscapes below, providing a memorable reward for the long nighttime climb. From the crater rim, you will continue toward Uhuru Peak at 5,895 meters, the highest point in Africa. Standing at the summit can become one of the greatest memories of your AFCON 2027 Tanzania journey: football may have been the reason you first traveled to the country, but Kilimanjaro gives you the achievement of reaching the Roof of Africa. After taking photographs and celebrating briefly, you will begin the long descent back toward Kibo and continue farther down to Horombo Hut.
