Book a 6-day solo Kenya safari from Nairobi to Samburu, Lake Nakuru and Maasai Mara with a private guide, premium stays and flexible drives.

A privately guided premium journey for one traveller through Samburu, Lake Nakuru and Maasai Mara from Nairobi.

This six-day solo explorer safari combines personal freedom with reliable professional support. Your dedicated driver-guide manages Nairobi pickup, reserve formalities, road transfers, game-drive planning and confirmed drop-off, while the private 4×4 gives you control over the pace within park rules. Samburu introduces dry-country wildlife and the Ewaso Ng’iro corridor, Lake Nakuru adds forest, rhino habitat and seasonal birds, and the Maasai Mara provides a full day across classic savannah. Premium accommodation offers secure check-in, comfortable meals and time to rest between drives. Day 1: Nairobi to Samburu – Your Private Northern Journey Begins

Nairobi to Samburu – Your Private Northern Journey Begins

Confirmed Solo Pickup

Meet your named driver-guide at JKIA, Wilson Airport or the agreed Nairobi hotel at approximately 6:30–7:00 a.m. Contact details and the vehicle description should be shared before departure. Travel 310–330 km via the central highlands, Nanyuki and Isiolo, allowing 5½–6½ hours plus refreshments. Your guide handles navigation and luggage while you enjoy the changing landscape. Reach Samburu around 1:00–2:00 p.m. for lunch and a secure check-in.

First Drive at Your Pace

After resting, depart at about 3:30 p.m. for a 2½–3-hour private drive. Focus on wildlife, birds, landscapes or photography according to your interests without needing to match another guest’s priorities. The Ewaso Ng’iro corridor may attract elephants and other animals, but sightings cannot be guaranteed. Return before dark for dinner; lodge staff and your guide will confirm the next morning’s meeting point.

Samburu – Personalised Wildlife Viewing and Lodge Time

Private Morning Search

Leave around 6:15 a.m. after tea or coffee. Your guide may explore riverine woodland, open plains and acacia country for Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, gerenuk, Beisa oryx, Somali ostrich and other wildlife. Because the vehicle is private, you can spend longer with a subject or move on when ready, always within reserve etiquette.

A Comfortable Independent Pause

Return at approximately 9:15 a.m. for breakfast and a relaxed late morning. Lunch is normally served near 1:00 p.m. Solo dining can be arranged at a regular table, shared table or quieter setting according to property options and your preference.

Your Afternoon Focus

Begin a second 2½–3-hour drive around 3:30 p.m. The route can prioritise photography, birding or a landscape sector not visited earlier. Return near 6:30 p.m. for dinner and a clear briefing about the transfer to Nakuru

Guided Journey to Nakuru

Travel 300–340 km through Isiolo and the central highlands to the Lake Nakuru area, normally 5½–7 hours plus lunch and comfort stops. You will not need to navigate unfamiliar roads or arrange transport independently. Arrival is expected in the late afternoon or early evening. Your guide assists with check-in, confirms meal arrangements and provides the following morning’s departure time. The evening is for dinner, rest and private communication with family or friends where network coverage allows.

Nakuru at Your Pace

After breakfast around 5:45–6:00 a.m., check out and begin a 2½–3-hour park drive at approximately 6:30 a.m. Explore accessible lakeshore, forest and grassland habitat for rhinos, giraffes, buffaloes and birds without being tied to another traveller’s checklist. Wildlife and flamingo numbers vary naturally.

Supported Journey to the Mara

Depart the park around 9:30–10:00 a.m. for the 235–270 km road journey via Narok. Allow 5–6½ hours plus lunch and comfort stops. Your guide will keep you informed about road conditions, arrival estimates and gate procedures. Reach the premium Mara property in the late afternoon or early evening and complete check-in before dinner. A late extra game drive is not forced. Lodge security procedures and the meeting point for Day 5 will be explained clearly.

Day 5: Maasai Mara – A Full Safari Day Built around Your Interests

Maasai Mara – A Full Safari Day Built around Your Interests

Choose the Day’s Focus

Leave at approximately 6:15 a.m. with a packed breakfast, or eat before departure when preferred. Discuss whether your priority is predators, plains wildlife, birds, behaviour, landscapes or photography. The guide chooses the safest productive route according to current conditions, and no specific sighting is promised.

Private Savannah Time

Spend about 8–10 hours in the reserve, pausing for a picnic lunch around 12:30–1:00 p.m. at an authorised site. A private vehicle means you can remain patient at a natural encounter without pressure from unrelated guests. Seasonal migration areas may be explored when sensible, but river crossings cannot be scheduled.

Secure Return to Camp

Continue through the afternoon and return around 6:00–6:30 p.m. Your guide confirms Day 6 timing before you enjoy dinner and your final premium night in the Mara.

Day 6: Maasai Mara to Nairobi – Guided Return and Verified Drop-Off

Maasai Mara to Nairobi – Guided Return and Verified Drop-Off

Clear Departure Arrangements

Enjoy breakfast at approximately 6:30 a.m. and check out around 7:30–8:00 a.m. Your guide verifies the destination, flight details and luggage count before departure. Wildlife seen while driving toward the gate is a welcome final encounter, not a guaranteed separate game drive.

Safe Completion in Nairobi

The 250–280 km transfer via Narok generally requires 5–6½ hours plus lunch and comfort stops. You can share your live progress with a trusted contact whenever network service is available. Arrival is expected from 2:30 to 5:00 p.m., depending on traffic and the camp’s location. Drop-off is made directly at JKIA, Wilson Airport or the agreed hotel or address—never at an unconfirmed roadside point. Select a flight after 8:00 p.m. or add a Nairobi night for a safer connection.

RELATED FAQS ABOUT 6 Days Solo Explorer Safari: Northern Kenya to the Mara

    1. Is this safari suitable for a first-time solo traveller?

Yes. A dedicated guide handles transport, reserve entry and daily timing, while premium properties provide staffed accommodation. Before arrival, the operator should share the guide’s name, phone number, vehicle description and pickup point. The guest should also provide an emergency contact and complete flight details.

    2. Will I have a private vehicle?

Yes, when booked as the described private solo package. You will not be matched with unknown passengers unless you deliberately choose a shared departure. The quotation must clearly state vehicle exclusivity, guide service and any activity—such as a walk or night drive—that could still be shared.

    3. Why is the per-person cost higher for a solo safari?

One guest covers costs normally divided among several travellers, including the vehicle, fuel, guide and single-occupancy room supplements. The advantage is privacy and complete control over the game-drive focus. A transparent quotation should identify single-room charges and optional shared alternatives without pressuring the traveller.

    4. How is pickup verified?

The operator should confirm the precise location, time, guide’s name and vehicle details before travel. The guest should ask the guide to identify the booking rather than displaying sensitive information publicly. Never enter an unmarked vehicle or accept a last-minute change from an unverified contact.

    5. Will eating alone be uncomfortable?

Most safari lodges welcome solo guests and can offer an individual table, a communal hosted table or occasional company from the guide when appropriate. Preferences should be shared before check-in. Meal seating depends on property style, and staff will normally help make the experience relaxed rather than awkward.

    6. Can I change the game-drive focus?

Yes, the private format allows emphasis on photography, birds, mammals or landscapes. Routes still depend on reserve rules, road conditions, daylight and wildlife welfare. Major itinerary changes that affect accommodation, park fees or distance require operator approval and may add cost.

    7. What happens if I become unwell?

Inform the guide immediately. The operator will coordinate the most suitable available medical support or evacuation according to location and severity. Comprehensive travel insurance with medical treatment and evacuation cover is essential; remote safari camps are not substitutes for hospitals.

    8. Is mobile coverage available throughout?

Coverage is available in many towns and some lodge areas but can be weak or absent inside remote reserve sectors. Share the operator’s emergency number with a trusted person before departure. Do not depend on continuous mobile data for safety, navigation or work calls during game drives.

    9. Is the safari suitable for a woman travelling alone?

Yes, with a reputable operator, confirmed guide and sensible personal precautions. Use agreed pickup points, secure valuables, follow lodge escort rules after dark and avoid sharing room numbers publicly. Any concern about a guide, property or arrangement should be reported promptly to management.

    10. Can I add a Nairobi night?

Yes. A pre-safari night reduces risk from delayed inbound flights, while a post-safari night avoids a tight Day 6 connection. The hotel, airport transfer and meal basis should be quoted separately. This is particularly helpful for a traveller handling international flights alone.
