6 Days Summit Kilimanjaro Trekking Umbwe Route

Welcome to the adventurous journey on the Umbwe Route! Our trek commences at the Umbwe Trailhead, situated at an altitude of 1800 meters. As we set off, we will follow a scenic forestry track, enveloped by the lush beauty of the rainforest. The path gradually inclines, leading us up the ridge that lies between the Lonzo and Umbwe rivers. The sights and sounds of the rainforest will mesmerize you as we hike further. After around 5 to 6 hours of walking, we will arrive at our first campsite, perched at an elevation of 2940 meters.

Today, we embark on a thrilling expedition that will take us along a narrow ridge, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. As we proceed, the imposing Breach Wall comes into view, often accompanied by ethereal mists that add to the allure of the journey. Our destination for the day is the Barranco Hut, nestled at an altitude of 3900 meters. The hike will last approximately 5 to 6 hours, and you'll be captivated by the beauty of nature throughout the entire trek.

The day promises more excitement as we conquer the Great Barranco Wall with a bit of scrambling. Once we've conquered this challenge, we'll traverse scree and ridges, eventually arriving at the picturesque Karanga Valley, situated at an elevation of 4000 meters. The valley offers awe-inspiring views of the majestic icefalls of Heim, Kersten, and Decken Glaciers, providing a captivating spectacle for our eyes. The journey to Karanga Valley will take approximately 3 hours.

Today's leg of the expedition involves a 3-hour ascent from Karanga Valley to Barafu Hut, located at an altitude of 4600 meters. This barren landscape presents little vegetation, giving it a desolate yet striking appearance. As we approach Barafu Hut, we'll be able to witness the impressive sight of Mawenzi and its surroundings, adding to the surreal experience of the trek.

The most challenging yet rewarding day awaits us. We'll start early in the morning, embarking on a 4-hour trek to reach the rim of Kibo Crater, nestled amid the Rebmann and Ratzel Glaciers. This final stretch requires careful steps, and for added stability, an ice-axe or ski stick can prove to be very helpful. Once we reach the Kibo Crater rim, a magnificent view of Meru and Mawenzi awaits us. From here, it's another hour of sheer determination and perseverance to reach the fabled Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. The view from the summit is an experience that words cannot do justice to. After relishing the triumph, we'll descend to Barafu Hut for some rest and a well-deserved lunch. From there, we'll continue our journey to Mweka Hut, where we'll spend the night.

Finally, we'll reach the Park gate, where we bid farewell to this extraordinary experience and take home memories that will last a lifetime.
