As we set off on our journey to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, we begin with a short transfer from moshi to the rongai gate. Here, we complete the necessary registration formalities and board a shuttle bus that takes us to the base of the mountain. As we make our way through the fields of maize and potatoes, we can't help but feel a sense of excitement and anticipation for what lies ahead. The path winds its way through the trees, and we are accompanied by the chirping of birds and the rustling of leaves. We spot the beautiful Kilimanjaro Colobus monkey, with their long white tails and black fur, and we marvel at the variety of wildlife that calls this forest home. We stop at Simba camp, our first camp at an altitude of 2,600 meters, and take in the stunning panorama before us. The sun sets behind the distant horizon, casting a golden glow over the landscape below. As we settle into our tents for the night, we reflect on the day's journey and the challenges that lie ahead.

The landscape is barren and rocky, but there are signs of life in the form of wildflowers and lichens that cling to the rocks. We stop for lunch at a vantage point that offers a stunning view of the surrounding landscape. The air is thin and the sun is hot, but we are energized by the beauty around us. After lunch, we continue our ascent towards Kikelewa Campsite. As we arrive at the campsite, we are greeted by the sight of a sparkling stream and a tranquil atmosphere.
