Today is the summit day, and it begins around midnight to avoid walking in the heat of the sun. The ascent is steep, and you'll hike for 5 to 6 hours over scree. After about an hour's walk, you'll reach the highest point, Uhuru Peak (5,896 meters), where you'll experience a sense of freedom and accomplishment.
