7 Days Big Five and Cultural Safari in Southern Tanzania

Leave Dar es Salaam at approximately 6:00 AM and travel by road to Nyerere. After arrival and lunch, enter the safari area around 3:00 PM for the first wildlife drive of the trip. Search for elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, antelopes, hippos and predators while learning about the ecosystems and communities surrounding the park. Continue until approximately 6:00 PM, then head to your midrange accommodation.

After breakfast, depart at around 7:00 AM with a picnic lunch. Spend the morning exploring wildlife rich areas, following tracks and recent animal movements where possible. Around midday, stop for lunch and rest before continuing through the afternoon. Your guide will balance major wildlife sightings with information about the park's ecology and conservation. Return to your lodge in the late afternoon.

Start the day at approximately 6:30 to 7:00 AM and travel toward areas not fully explored previously. This extra day creates more time to observe wildlife naturally rather than rushing through the park. Look for elephants, buffaloes, antelopes, hippos, giraffes and predators while also appreciating smaller species and birdlife. Enjoy lunch during the middle of the day and continue until late afternoon.

Leave Nyerere after breakfast and begin the road journey toward Mikumi. Once you arrive, have lunch and enter the park at around 3:00 PM. Explore its open plains and woodland for zebra, wildebeest, giraffes, buffaloes, elephants and other animals. The drive continues until around 6:00 PM, when you transfer to your midrange accommodation.

Breakfast is followed by a full day inside Mikumi beginning at approximately 7:00 AM. Spend the morning around the Mkata plains and surrounding wildlife areas, pausing frequently for interesting encounters and photographs. Stop for lunch around midday, then continue exploring through the afternoon. The day ends around 5:30 PM, followed by dinner at the lodge.

Depart Mikumi after breakfast at around 7:00 AM and continue to the Udzungwa area. During the first part of the day, enjoy a guided forest walk where monkeys, birds, butterflies and tropical vegetation provide a completely different experience from the open savannah. Later, depending on local arrangements and timing, visit a nearby community or village setting to learn about daily life, farming traditions, food production or other aspects of local culture. The experience should remain respectful and community based rather than staged only for visitors. Finish the day at your midrange accommodation.

After breakfast at approximately 7:00 AM, enjoy a short cultural or community based activity around the Udzungwa area. Meet local residents where arranged, observe everyday village life and learn more about the relationship between communities, farming and the surrounding natural environment. At around 10:00 AM, begin the journey back to Dar es Salaam. Stop for lunch along the way and arrive during the late afternoon or evening.
