7 Days Boat Safari and Big Five Tour in Southern Tanzania

Depart Dar es Salaam at approximately 6:00 AM and drive toward Nyerere, arriving during the early afternoon. After lunch and check in, prepare for a boat safari beginning at around 3:30 PM, depending on water conditions and local schedules. Cruise slowly along the river or suitable water channel while looking for hippos, crocodiles and numerous waterbirds, with possible sightings of animals approaching the banks to drink. The experience provides a peaceful contrast to a vehicle safari and can be especially beautiful during the softer late afternoon light. Finish at around 6:00 PM and return to your midrange accommodation for dinner.

After breakfast at approximately 6:30 AM, switch from boat to safari vehicle and spend the full day exploring Nyerere. Search for elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, antelopes, hippos, predators and other wildlife across a variety of habitats. Your guide will adjust the route according to recent sightings and animal movement, with a picnic lunch taken around midday. Continue through the afternoon until approximately 5:30 PM, then return to the lodge.

Begin at around 7:00 AM for another day of game viewing. The second full day allows more time to search for species that may have been missed previously while also exploring completely different sections of this extensive wilderness. Spend the morning visiting productive habitats, take lunch in an approved picnic area and continue during the afternoon. Alongside larger animals, pay attention to birds, smaller mammals and the changing landscapes that make Nyerere such a varied destination.

After breakfast, leave for Mikumi at approximately 7:00 AM. Arrive, have lunch and begin your afternoon game drive around 3:00 PM. The open plains make it possible to scan broad areas for buffaloes, elephants, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest and antelopes while your guide also watches for predators. Explore until approximately 6:00 PM before continuing to your midrange lodge.

Start at about 7:00 AM and spend the whole day in Mikumi. Explore the Mkata plains and surrounding habitats while searching for large wildlife and enjoying the broad savannah scenery. A picnic lunch is taken around 12:30 PM, followed by another game viewing session through the afternoon. Finish at approximately 5:30 PM and return to your accommodation for dinner.

Depart Mikumi after breakfast and travel to Udzungwa at around 7:00 AM. Once there, begin a guided forest walking experience through dense mountain vegetation. Search for monkeys, birds, butterflies and other forest life while learning about the unique ecology of the area. Depending on the selected route, continue toward waterfall viewpoints and scenic sections of the mountains before completing the activity in the afternoon.

Enjoy an early breakfast and a shorter morning walk beginning around 7:00 AM. Spend the final hours of your safari in the forest before returning to prepare for departure at approximately 10:00 AM.
