We then embark on our ascent to Mawenzi Turn Camp (4,330m), our next campsite, following a path that winds through the stunning landscape. Throughout the day, we take regular breaks to help our bodies acclimate to the high altitude. After a delicious dinner, we retire to our tents, eager to catch more glimpses of the breathtaking scenery.

As we embark on our journey to the summit, we cross the lunar-like landscape of the Mawenzi Saddle, where the vast openness and emptiness of the plain is a humbling experience. With a sing-along, we make our way to Kibo Hut, mid-afternoon, to rest and prepare for our final ascent. We enjoy an early dinner and a good night's sleep in preparation for the summit attempt.

At midnight, we awaken with a small snack before setting out on the steepest and most challenging hike yet. Hiking "pole pole" on the switchback trail, we navigate the volcanic scree, until we reach Gilman's Point (5,685m) before sunrise. After taking in the stunning views, we continue our ascent to Uhuru Peak, via Stella Point, reaching the summit of Africa at 6:30 am. We return to Kibo Hut for lunch, resting before descending to Horombo Hut.

After breakfast, we begin our descent, retracing our steps to the Mandara Hut (2,700m). From there, we continue down to the Horombo Hut (3,700m), where we spend the night. The final day of our hike brings us back to the Marangu Gate, where we complete our journey and are transported back to Moshi.
