Day 1: Nairobi to Samburu – Northern Kenya Landscapes

Nairobi to Samburu – Northern Kenya Landscapes

You will leave Nairobi in the morning and travel approximately 320 kilometres to Samburu, a journey of about 5½ to 6½ hours. Along the way, the guide will explain the geographical and cultural changes between central Kenya and the northern rangelands. After arriving, checking in and having lunch, you will enjoy an afternoon game drive near the Ewaso Nyiro River and surrounding plains. You may observe elephants, reticulated giraffes, Grevy’s zebras and gerenuks while learning how the river supports both wildlife and neighbouring communities. Dinner and overnight will be at a midrange lodge or camp.

Day 2: Samburu Wildlife and Community Experience

Samburu Wildlife and Community Experience

After breakfast, you will combine wildlife viewing with an optional responsible Samburu community visit. The day may involve 60 to 100 kilometres of local driving and approximately 7 to 8 hours of activities, depending on the location of the village and the chosen game-drive route. During the visit, community hosts may explain traditional homes, beadwork, songs, ceremonies, livestock practices and changes affecting modern Samburu life. You will later continue with a game drive in the reserve, searching for elephants, lions, leopards and specialised northern species. Lunch will be provided at the lodge or an authorised picnic site before the afternoon programme.

Day 3: Samburu to Ol Pejeta Conservancy

Samburu to Ol Pejeta Conservancy

Following breakfast, you will travel approximately 200 kilometres to Ol Pejeta Conservancy in 4 to 5 hours. The route connects community-owned landscapes with one of Kenya’s best-known private conservancies. After lunch and check-in, you will explore Ol Pejeta and learn about wildlife protection, rhino conservation and the relationship between tourism and surrounding communities. The afternoon may include visits to rhino areas, plains habitats and the Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary, subject to operating hours. You will return to your midrange accommodation for dinner.

Day 4: Ol Pejeta to Lake Naivasha

Ol Pejeta to Lake Naivasha

You will depart after breakfast and drive approximately 230 kilometres to Lake Naivasha, taking around 4½ to 5½ hours. After arrival and lunch, you can relax before an optional boat ride or Crescent Island walk. The guide may discuss the importance of fishing, flower farming, tourism and freshwater resources to communities around the lake. During the boat excursion, you may observe hippos, fish eagles, pelicans and other waterbirds. Dinner and overnight will be at a midrange property near Lake Naivasha.

Day 5: Lake Naivasha to Masai Mara

After breakfast and check-out, you will travel approximately 250 kilometres to Masai Mara, a journey of around 5 to 6½ hours. The route passes through Narok County and landscapes strongly associated with Maasai pastoral culture. After lunch and check-in, you will enjoy an afternoon game drive across the Masai Mara plains. The guide will introduce the relationship between the reserve, seasonal wildlife movement, livestock areas and neighbouring communities. You will return for dinner and overnight at your midrange lodge or camp.

Day 6: Masai Mara Game Drive and Optional Maasai Visit

Masai Mara Game Drive and Optional Maasai Visit

You will spend approximately 8 to 10 hours exploring Masai Mara and participating in your selected activities. The game drive may cover 80 to 140 kilometres, with routes chosen according to wildlife sightings. You will search for lions, cheetahs, elephants, buffaloes, giraffes and plains animals before or after an optional Maasai community visit. Community hosts may present aspects of traditional housing, age-group customs, livestock, beadwork and dance while also discussing modern education and local development. The visit should remain respectful and should never force guests or hosts into unwanted photographs or purchases. Lunch will be served in the reserve or at the lodge.

Day 7: Masai Mara to Nairobi

Masai Mara to Nairobi

After breakfast, you will leave Masai Mara and travel approximately 280 to 300 kilometres back to Nairobi. The road journey takes around 5½ to 6½ hours, with stops near Narok and the Great Rift Valley where appropriate. On arrival, you will be dropped at your Nairobi accommodation or airport.
